The Legend of Vox Machina S1E03 Watch Along

Hey Peaches! The beginning of the Briarwood arc is here. Killing a dragon was fun, right? Well the fun is over, as Percy's backstory takes center stage. His family hunted down and murdered, Percy comes face to faces with the monsters that killed his whole family. And they have plans and machinations of their own. Can Vox Machina stay united as Percy's past comes back to haunt, not only them, but the whole kingdom?

As a critter from almost the very beginning C1 is better than C2 and C3 (so far) full stop. Yes, it starts out rough in the beginning because we don't start at the beginning and a certain Dragonborn but when the Briarwood arc really starts going then the show takes off and never looks back. C1 brings everything to the table Love (both romantic and friendship), Sacrifice (both physical and emotional), Humor (crude and fan service), epic battles (to the point of world saving events). Yes, C2 and C3 have all of these but neither to the same level (C3 might but we will see). Their all awesome but C1 will always have a special place in my heart.

As someone who became a fan because of this show, I started C1 at the Briarwood arc and became deeply invested in that campaign

I would actually be interested in seeing y'all watch through all the episodes a second time. Could make for some interesting commentary and noticing things that were missed the first time around.

C1 is tough to get started in.... but the story by the end is heartbreaking, heartwarming, and some of my favorite storytelling that still FEELS like a D&D game, but C2 is amazing in totally different ways... :) I'd say watch C1 as well but I totally understand those who don't it's a LOT to commit to :)

FalcorDragon

Some are, I don't care for a few things like the Briarwoods leaving in the carriage instead of teleporting away, nothing really story impacting but it was just something else to show their power

Awesomeapocalypse

I completely agree with Jay on watching Campaign 2. I started there and I quickly ran out of content. Its great to listen to while doing other stuff. Its amazing to replace as any podcasts for a bit. The story is EXTREMELY rewarding. C1 is centered around a typical D&D party where your goal is to become famous and godly. C2 is different. Matt weaves a story that is relatable. About power manipulation, corruption, and how the best of people can be turned into something they aren't. And overcoming all of that. There is a meta comment Liam makes towards the end of C2 that is something like "you know this is high fantasy when the manipulative son of a bitch in power gets his due." Its really something. C2 is my jam.

Literally as they mention that the bad guy looks like Xanatos from Gargoyles, I was thinking how much of a missed opportunity it was not to have Jonathan Frakes do they guys voice. Really if you guys did a watch along of Gargoyles I would be so in!

The belt is something from the home game. It tuns into a snake he calls it simon. It is sometimes taken out as a pet.

Dreamdragonmage

I was waiting for Adam to point aggressively in triumph at the screen when the Briarwoods walked past the hallway mirror... :)

The Critical Role stream can be a daunting piece of content to go through if you look at it like, "I need to sit down and watch this all the way through." I'm with Jay, consume it while doing some chores, I watched most of Campaign 1 while running on a treadmill. Those runs got pretty long at some points..

TheDogPenguin

Yes, Vax has a magic belt that turns into a snake; its name is Simon. I really hope this story takes the rest of the season to complete, because it really deserves the time to breathe. Maybe starting the next arc as a cliffhanger for season 2.

Ghengis Don

Also, the snake belt is named "Simon" and is actually a belt that can turn into a snake LOL

FalcorDragon

You say that's the deepest pull we've done in a while, and then he casually later drops a Monster Squad "Wolfman's Got Nards" reference and no one bats and eye... hehe :)

FalcorDragon

The diffrences in the series to the live stream are great as in this fight Pike is not there and Scanlan is actually helping in the fight not singing. loving it so far

James Hall

I've been refreshing Patreon since 1pm. and then the youtube edited one dropped. This will be my 3rd screening of this.
