Peacemaker S1E04 Watch Along

Hey Peaches!!!  Now that we know what a Butterfly is, and the threat our heroes are facing, it's time to learn a little bit more about about our main cast. What makes them tick? What are their fears?  How much butt can they kick? In the case of Vigilante....it's a lot. This episode really shines a light on the emotional struggles most of our characters are facing. It was a surprise, but a welcome one. This show is really keeping us guessing, in the best way possible.

Adam, I honestly look forward to watching you spin those wheels. Best part of these watchalongs. Keep it up! :-D

I had more or less the same exact reaction showing the theme dance to my wife. Feels. :)

William Timmins

Very DP. Rather, very Ryan Reynolds, because a lot of the similarity comes from his voice and delivery. It can bother me sometimes, bc it feels like he stole DP's identity, but, hey, he does it well! I ain't mad at it!

My mom is OBSESSED with true crime documentaries. I bought her a book about the Golden State Killer for her birthday, the one that Patton Oswald finished for his late wife.

Justin Burlin

Women watch/listen to true crime stuff because it validates our fears. We're constantly on high alert and double guessing if our worries are logical. True crime stories tell us "yeah, you're right to be skeptical and here's some more red flags you should look out for!" -Signed, Scott's wife who listens to a lot of true crime podcasts.

Alison Hawkes

Seriously, I feel ya Jay. My Mom only watches sports, ghost investigations, and murder stuff. Like, I grew up with her and sports... but now, it's like ghost hunts and Oxygen's Snapped, ID channel and Dateline. She doesn't know why but she loves it. I'm super into Comic Book/Member Berries shows (Ready Player One, Cobra Kai) but watching Squid Game I was like, I kinda get it. Hahaha...

Yeah, agree with the others that true crime/stalking shows can be a kind of catharsis. Most women have experienced at some point a situation where they've felt unsafe and wondered "is this guy going to kill me?" Some true crime content does get a bit gratuitous though. One podcast I really like is Drunk Women Solving Crime. It's a bunch of women comedians who talk about a true crime case of the week and it's really great. It does sort of explore this aspect of catharsis through talking about crimes, but its really good humored and they've had some great guests.

"You know who Vigilante is? It's what I am going to be when I take your body" *AWKWARD PAUSE* "With my soul"

Ryan Weishaar

You both have the best reactions. Don't lose sight by trying to diagnose things as a guys vs girls problem

Anna

Man..... we see that Murn has little emotion.... see that butterflies have no emotion then the "if it walks like a duck scene" then the reveal. That was SO GOOD.

DeadNotSleeping

yessssssssss!

Sly

That's a very good point about fears and realities. Never thought of that.

Vigilante has a weird Deadpool vibe to his mannerisms. His is totally different but I cannot doubt the hints of Deadpool I get from this. I am so down for this show!

So, I could go into the whole thing about how women have to deal with the constant anxiety of potential violence and shows about violence against women serve as a cathartic release of that stress, but tbh the You fandom is a little unusual. Some people get that you're not supposed to actually sympathize with the stalker/killer guy, and other people...don't. So yeah, some people are just into weird stuff. Having said that, I must confess I kinda have a thing for Vigilante. He's pretty adorkable and badass.

Bethlee Swanson

Vigilante going from total dork, to chilling psycho, to anti-Nazi badass, to deep and troubled character in so few episodes has been a roller coaster. Peacekeeper is delivering on so many levels, and far more than I was expecting.

S Croft

ALSO also your reaction to Vigilante's prison scene was everything I hoped for because I could not stop laughing from surprised joy

Anna

Regarding Jay's opening tangent, it's satisfying to see fears and realities play out in a fictional setting where there are no consequences. Dark shit is addressed and then you get to turn it off and go make dinner or whatever. Also, Peacemaker is the absolute shit I'm living for these days. You love the hell out of that opening sequence because it's the frickin' best!!!

Anna

…. Maybe do the dance for Crowd-work ?

Shauna

The old neighbor is most definitely Bat-mite

Isaac Anderson

To be fair if youre not into murder shows thats cool i respect that...but im a dude and if you watch through all 3 seasons "You" is an amazing series for any gender! It is more chick oriented but it does get really good especially season 3💯
