It’s such a glorious series. I know you said that just that episode could be a stand alone piece but please, if you can … finish it. Episodes 2&3 are SO good! It’s a rollercoaster!

Thank you for reacting to this amazing show πŸ₯° Choosing a kid based on gender is funny to me now, as the parent of a trans kid πŸ’πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

I loved this so much! Such a beautiful story so far. I can't wait to see the next part.

Chris Metzger

You should listen to the Truth Be Told podcast https://adoptcymru.com/podcast where people talk about the adoption process. It really is this invasive

Hannah Gibson

That is not a Welsh accent!! It's Northern Irish

Hannah Gibson

OMG I really enjoyed that and can't wait to see the other two episodes. Thank you so much for sharing.

John Dillon

I would want to adopt all the kids at an event like that holy how do you just walk away from children without families 😩

Hannah Howden

Wow. That was great. So excited to watch the rest. Just beautiful. πŸ’“

I watched this series a few days ago and, I agree that it does get very emotional. In defense of the social worker, it's important to remember that the questions are not just about learning about the couple's history but also helping to determine what children to pair them with. There aren't always newborn babies available so they have to navigate circumstances on both sides (potential parents & kids). That's why they try to create profiles that are as extensive as possible. I can tell you from experience that you are not disqualified from being an adoptive parent just because you come from an abusive home (at least not in the US) but they do like to know how you dealt with that to know how you might handle a child with the same background.

Such a lovely show. I’m glad to see the BBC become much more inclusive with their content and give us such a lovely surprise for pride month πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ

When you have the love to give you give others wings

I am a single lesbian parent, I had a gay male friend to be a donor, but we found out he had low sperm count so I went through a clinic to have my child and they do want to know everything, but then you do feel accepted as worthy and approved as good parent material

Gina Lipkin

I think a lot of what Gabriel is worried about with a male child, and why he asked about violence being hereditary, is because he’s scared of how he might treat a male child. It will be interesting to see whether the devil was a hallucination he experienced or just a representation for the audience to understand his past trauma.

This was absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for bringing it to us. πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

Not the same, but when I went through IVF treatments in Quebec in 2015, my husband and I had to fill out very invasive questionnaires. Some questions I remember were about our sex life, our childhoods, our political and religious views, etc. Maybe not as invasive as face-to-face interviews, but still weirded us out. We also had questions about what we would do if we found out the fetus had Down's Syndrome or other diagnoses, if we'd abort, etc. I remember it feeling like a test we had to pass to be allowed to become parents...

I think the purpose of the social worker's invasive questions are probably the writer's way of telling the story for each of the characters. Who knows if this is done in real life.

Duckbie

the social worker is working off a questionnaire that she has been given.

Dominique Berton

at the point that Gabriel puts on his mum's dress, he is of an age where wanting to be close to his mum in any way possible, so to me that moment doesn't show queerness necessarily. It shows a child grieving.

Dominique Berton

Did you know that William Shakespeare was Gay?

Gina Lipkin

Didn't know about this show untill it popped up at your channel, but it so far seems like a lovely, tough, important story.

Sara Nissen

This show absolutely broke my heart. So beautiful. I'm bi, I'm adopted and at the end of this I was a snivelling mess... πŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ’™πŸ₯Ή
