Unfair-Chapter 92: "The Talk"

Chapter 92: Little Voices: “The Tal

Comments

I wonder what guns are like in this universe. But knowing amazons, weapons that could equalize the difference classes are far to dangerous. I image Guns are probably non-existent, can’t have any seeds of rebellion growing.

Finally got a job so I’m back and now caught back up. I love this story. This chapter is amazing. It does make me wonder if maturosis actually is a thing or not. I feel bad for Tracy and it is an eye opener to Clark about how much she actually has to go through to stay on top.

Totally invested, there are numerous lines of story development that could be explored, When Ambrose came onto the scene that also raised the question again of what had happened to Cassie, had she escaped back to her parents or was she now the plaything of an unknown Amazon and living the life of a baby right there under Clark’s nose but invisible to him because she was now regressed to the life of a baby, on her back or her tummy in a pram, able to lift her head and move her limbs without any real coordination but unable to walk or talk because her mobility and voice had been impaired to prevent her escape.

I'm glad that you're invested.

"But that's just not who Clark is". I love that you added this in. It makes him feel real to me instead of just a black slate in a computer game. Thank you for acknowledging a flawed but I hope interesting and compelling character.

:)

We'll see.

Your previous three chapters were outstanding, Ambrose now has it in for Tracy for helping Clark escape her clutches. For her disobedience Ambrose is treating Tracy as if she is a one of her preschool class and not the assistant, Making her sit and pose on the alphabet block in a little peasant skirt and white top with her hands flat on the alphabet block was a masterstroke, I would not be surprised if when the photos are handed out that Ambrose gets to keep Tracey’s and that a soggy diaper can be clearly seen under her peasant dress as she sits ankles crossed but her legs kept by the bulky padding. Ambrose doesn’t need to claim that Tracy has matriosis because she is already getting to humiliate the tween r and now has her under her control, but what she does need is some dirt on Janet so that she has to hand Clark over to Ambrose during the school vacation break so that she can melt out the Clark and Tracey the punishment that they have coming to them, will Clark be given the full baby treatment by Ambrose and Tracy made to play the part of his diapered toddler sister and Mommy’s little helper before Janet and Beouf can engineer the demise of Ambrose?

If Clark wants to actually get out of his current situation he needs to be cold and dispassionate. But that's just not who Clark is. He's focused on getting revenge instead of getting results.

My money is on Ambrose calling her husband every other day basically telling him about how immature Tracy is acting at school. Of course, he will brush it off after a few calls but combine it with Tracy coming home complaining about how she was forcibly diapered and the continuing phone calls... he might not want to treat her like a baby but those pamphlets that get circulated and Little Voice's presence in the community might make him see his wife in a different light. Again, It's not something that would happen on day one or two... more like the last few months of the year. There's a lot of interesting hints and even the fact that Tweeners are in diapers shows that Tracy is actually more at risk than Clark ever was. Clark was protected by a circle of friends. Tracy doesn't exactly have that outside of Clark, Mrs. B, Zoge and Janet. Yes, It's the same circle Clark had but Clark never had to spend each and every day with an insane Amazon... She could spike Tracy's drink if the neverending barrage of Tracy's maturity gets boring to her...

Oh that's no secret. I've said it elsewhere , I'm sure. I know what the ending is going to be and a pretty good idea of how I get there, but I always leave wiggle room to adapt as needed. There are two broad approaches to writing: Gardening and Architecture. Gardening is when you make the world in total and the characters and put them in the world and see how they grow and react. The world is the soil and the characters are the seeds. This is also called 'pantsing' by some, as in "Flying by the seat of your pants". It's weakness is that while the characters feel organic, it is possible to write yourself into a corner and the story production stalls. Think every great unfinished book series. Architecture is when you plan everything from beginning to end, beat by beat. The story is a house that you are building layer by layer. This is also called "plotting". The events of the story are given greater focus and there is a fairly clear beginning, middle, and end. The weakness is often times characters will behave highly unnaturally "because the story needs it to happen." Think of every unsatisfying T.V. show ending where weird shit came out of nowhere. I try to take a middle ground with Unfair. I call it "Vine Trellis" There's plot points that need to happen and will happen, but there's a certain amount of flexibility for the characters to grow explore and wiggle around based on what's going on in my brain. This goes for both events and pacing. What was going to be one chapter gets lengthened into two or three or four or five. It's how one day sometimes gets split into multiple chapters or why some days get skipped altogether. But it's also plot elements too. When I was writing Clark visiting Misty Brook to be with other Littles, I was jamming out to Heathers: The Musical and heard this song called "Big Fun". Opening lyrics are "Dad says act your age, you heard the man it's time to rage." And that gave me the idea for a Gwiffin Party, so in that sequence went where it hadn't existed before. Because of course Littles are constantly condescended to as if they're kids. So their parties celebrating their adulthood would probably accidentally look a lot like a high school rager or a college kegger (aka a massive loud party thrown by people who are physically and often legally adults, but we still use terms like "college kids".) So in it went. Likewise, with Amy, she was just supposed to be a one-shot character to show that maybe Clark wasn't doing as much good in collaborating with Beouf as he thought he was. But then when I realized that I needed a counterpoint to Clark, but not someone entirely like Ivy, I realized that I could bring back a character...and that Clark was going to be taken to the burnt wreckage of his old house...and that Amy and Helena lived in the same neighborhood as he did (at least close enough for bus stops). I knew it had to be Amy. So yeah. I've got an endpoint in mind. I've got a Point A and a Point Z and we'll get there. But if I find an alternate route or a quick detour to an interesting tourist trap along the way, or I need to adjust the speed limit so we can get a good look at the countryside or zip right through empty cowfields, I'm free to take it.

Bringing her back was an excellent choice. Which begs the question that I'm sure you won't answer: are you just extending the story as you continue more ideas? or did you always have a planned ending that we haven't reached, and you just keep pushing more in before we get there ;)

Clark is very much at that stage and has been at it for a while now. We'll see how it goes down the road. Could go up, could go down, could be no change at all.

I'll confess right here and right now. Amy was supposed to be a one-off character with the bus scene but has become one of my favorite characters to write.

That's a good question.

I'm less like a parent and more like a kid sharing his art to his friends at the coloring table. "Hey! Look at this!"

So I don't know how long this story will be. I have so many beats plan and so many more come up as a result of previous beats that I hadn't considered. They're not derailing the destinations but they're interesting detours to take. But I hope you and others continue to enjoy it.

I love the different clues and discussions going on here. It's very cool.

I feel like Clark is basically at the being a jerk stage not realizing it makes him look even worse. If Amy ever sees it I am sure she would call him out on it. Ivy might too. It’s just easier to see Amy causing him out because of him doing something stupid. I could even see an adopted Cassie doing it. Expectialy if she has be through worse than he has. I don’t thank that he understands that Janet dose love him and is trying to protect him.

I don't think it was praised so I will: Amy IS what Clark should aspire to be, weaponizing the forced infantalization to make life a perpetual embarrassment for the amazons too.

I'm curious to see if anyone tries to use talks about hypnosis to bring up the forced removal of inner ear balance using that bell from the physical therapy classes.

Great job! I know that you knew that we would all think that ‘the talk’ would be the long awaited talk between Clark and Beouf. I love how you dangled that carrot in front of us, played us all for fools 😂. I love all the details added about this world. It’s not just the maturosis explanation, but all the subtle things going on. Between the Amazon tweeter couple and the tweener overacting her emotions, the mundane conversations about monthly delivery boxes and the differences and similarities between Amy and her mommy and Clark and Janet. It’s all these things that make this world so believable and makes me so invested in this story. Every Saturday I have the worst case of ‘Christmas morning syndrome’ of being excited about a new chapter. I feel Little with the excitement of opening up a new present and then I feel Little even more when I get to dive into a new chapter. Honestly, I feel the most unlucky person is Personalias because he doesn’t get to feel the same excitement that we all feel. I understand that he probably loves seeing our reactions but like my Christmas analogy, I feel like he is more like a parent feeling happy watching their kids be excited opening up the presents but doesn’t get to feel the excitement of being a kid opening up presents. How sad 😭

Quite a while ago, I postulated that you'd perhaps wrap this up with Chapter 100. Clearly, though, that is highly unlikely at this point. So on we go...and we are all going to be happier for it. As to this chapter: I totally agree with those who commented that it gave Maturosis a clarity that had hitherto been missing, and that it showed off the high-quality teacher that Boeuf is (or anyway could be if she had never fallen down the Maturosis well.) And her utter blindness to the clear evidence that Clark is not suddenly less "mature" is shown here to be the result of this upside-down block model: she is telling herself that he fits the model perfectly because it allows him to keep his adult reasoning and thinking. Of course, that makes the model rather self-fulfilling, but hey: can't have everything. I actually thought that "the talk" would be between Clark and Janet, finally getting everything into the open in a rational way. THAT might have opened the door to a potential Ch 100 ending, but nope: there is clearly a long way to go now. Once more, with feeling: I LOVE THIS STORY!

Interesting addition to Beouf's character here. As much 'bad' as she does, you have to admit she's probably on the good side of bad here. Being anti-hypnosis, and she even acknowledged they're still adults. Does that carry beyond the carnal urges that she acknowledged? I would love to know what she says to the parents in the other room! At some point that milk is going to have to be corrected or the truth told. I think she spoke up just a bit too soon for goats milk to be the truth myself. Unless Janet is just as squeamish about it...? Clark definitely did learn of something that makes the 'adults' more uncomfortable. I think it's probably a bit of a bomb that would blow up in his face, but a part of me wonders if it won't happen down the road before Cassie reappears. I disagree with Tracy showing up though unless it's her husband that brings her. Ambrose would scoff at Little Voices - she's definitely someone who would be happy with hypnosis. I won't be surprised to see her get her hands on Clark and try at some point. Lots of foreshadowing about a future close call with hypnosis here!
