2025-01-11 07:14:15 +0000 UTCI remember the Chupacabra myth started in the early 90's, they would have segments on those human interest stories/news shows on the Univision and Telemundo networks back then. Except the myth originated in Puerto Rico, with cattle being drained of blood, with vampiric marking on their neck, and mutilated in weird ways sometimes. Of course, the logical explanation was that it was weird humans doing fucked up ritualistic nonsense. But that didn't stop pop culture from adopting the myth, the first time I remember it going mainstream was when The X-Files did an episode about the Chupacabra, but falsely claiming that it was "classic" or "ancient" folklore of Mexican descent. A lot cool pictures of the cryptid back then, and it was featured on the extremely popular paranormal shows and tv specials, with E.T.s and UFOs being the craze back then, shows like "Sightings" and on morning talk shows when they did paranormal episodes. South Park's own cyptid, its own Chupacabra, is "ManBearPig" watch that one, he is one of the South Park antagonists throughout the show. ManBearPig is part of the epic "Imaginationland" trilogy, and goes on to appear on the really good "Time to Get Cereal" and "Nobody Got Cereal?" Then, ManBearPig is important in the genius specials "South Park The Streaming Wars" and "South Park The Streaming Wars Part 2."
