When Envy was in the monster (full) form, there's a philosopher's stone in the back of its tongue and doctor Marcoh destroyed that. As for why it could still live in that tiny worm form, you will be answered in the later episodes.

2021-07-07 22:33:38 +0000 UTCwhat mustang did to lust was burn and kill her enough times to exhaust the stone (use up all the souls that fueled her lifeforce and resurrection) kinda like when gluttony was killed enough times to almost die before father rescued him. marco essentially almost did the same thing by using the formula to reverse the formation process and destroy envy from the inside out. envy however had a failsafe measure and reverted back to its true form instead
