SEUS PTGI E7 Dev News

Hey, all! Here's what's been going on with the development of SEUS PTGI E7. The focus for E7 is bug fixes and optimizations. 

SEUS PTGI has been long overdue for a deep cleaning. It's built on top of an old beta version of SEUS Renewed, and I've been so focused on adding and improving features that I haven't bothered too much about the more stagnant areas of the project. Having the project cleaned out will make it easier to manage for me, and more easily managed code is always a good thing for a project

This includes a redesign of some things, like the sky model. Since the sky is being sampled by reflections and GI, it's important that the sky model itself is lightweight. So, I've designed a new one. It definitely looks different, and in some cases subjectively worse, but it's still young and I will continue to improve it.

I've also been working on optimization on a low level. Like cleaning the code for the project, this is tedious work, but it has payed off so far and there are already noticeable performance improvements!

I am also working on Minecraft 1.13 compatibility, which is planned for this update. Don't worry, I'll make sure it's still compatible with 1.12.

I hope to get E7 finished within a week, but there can always be unexpected delays. Thank you for your patience!

So I absolutely love PTGI 7 on my Nvidia 1060. However I enjoy modded Minecraft very much and I’m using Thaumcraft 6 Beta 26 as it is by far my favorite magic mod and I’ve been using it since back in 1.7 and maybe even earlier. PTGI 7 seems to have issues with the golem press as well as warded jars and nitor, when I place nitor as a light fixture it’s literally invisible can’t see anything. The golem press is just glitched our and has purple textures all over it and the textures are used in wrong places, like the table texture is placed over the cauldron and anvil textures even though it shouldn’t. The glass jars don’t even look like glass they let made out of the water shader texture or whatever for some reason, they move and flow just like the water does. I would really love if you could look into fixes for these if they’re on the shader end and not the mod itself!

I don't mind delays. After all, this is an individual on Patreon and not an official company project. But, monetary contributors deserve an explanation for extraneous delays.

Listen, it's difficult to swallow the whole "Hope to get it out within a week, but expect delays" when we all know that you get your paycheck on the 1st of each month. Not a single word from you within 3 weeks. If there are delays, that's fine, but not updating your patrons on these delays just makes it look like you're milking that money as best as you can.

Well-said. I don't know about the 'reverse-engineering' part, but he's certainly doing some really complicated things with path tracing. It's very hard to design it in such a way that's performant without hardware acceleration.

If you have problems, it is probably because you are either in the wrong version or didnt follow all of the instructions from his ptgi e6 post. RTX cards work the same as the gtx cards as far as compatibility goes.

This is most likely because you are in the wrong version, or because you didnt match your settings with the requirements in the ptgi e6 post

I am 100% on board for paying you for your development. I understand it's hard work, but making sure it's useable with the latest version of minecraft should be top priority. Looking forward to E7!

For some reason light sources other than the sun/moon don't seem to work with this shader enabled. I've turned up torch & other light source intensity to maximum in the shader, and there's still no light from those sources (torches, etc).

Because it's still a work in progress, it's an experimental shader mainly focused on path traced global illumination. Those detail will be added later I guess when his PTGI is more polished. AMD card does not even work with it yet and he is trying to get it working.

cant wait for this :) runs decent at 12 chunks with minecraft more or less using the 16x with normal specular maps tho i dont know how people can use 1024 texture packs with it when i am using a 1080ti and an i7 8700k and 32gb DDR4 RAM

Anyone know why there isn't any rain falling on this shader? Other shaders seem to work fine but for some reason the PTGI doesn't.

optifien is not out yet and I don't think we even have proper 1.13 compatability since the shader looks far better in 1.12.2 then it doesn in 1.13.2 especially water, the grass doesn't move either in 1.13.2 while it does in 1.12.2.

Hey Eric, check out the home pages description of this shader pack: **It does not take advantage of hardware acceleration on RTX cards.** This isn't possible for now.

Imagine the possibilities with glowing emerald block and proper glass light scattering! Redstone LED monitors! Also, it would be nice to add options in the shaders to add custom light blocks, so we can add blocks from mods there.

This is a trusted download? it seems pretty sketchy, but hey what do I know, I'm just getting back into Minecraft from years ago, lol. Anyway I don't see which one I should be downloading, there's so many options, and many different versions.

Install Optifine, launch the game, and you'll have a folder called "Shaders" in the .minecraft folder

So, original Seus had underwater lighting that looked realistic.. buuut my version of ptgi for some reason has black clouds and a water thats completely illuminated? Bug or possible fix?

Make it possible to disable TAA. It blurs the image too much. SMAA is much better

Yes thank you it was the blur, by optimizing the game, the headset with debug and java for performance, I was able to get it to about 25 fps in vr, which is ok to look at pretty sunsets but for gameplay not so much. Guess I'll have to save up for RTX -_-

@John Haslam If by "washy mess" you mean blurry, you could try turning off Blur. But I wouldn't expect a playable framerate even with GTX 1080.

I have started using your shader in the 1.12.2 version of minecraft, and decided to use vivecraft with the shader enabled. Unfortunately the picture was a washy mess and I don't think it was entirely a performance problem. I have a GTX 1080 . Have you tried anything like this?

Do u have this issue when u use forgeoptifine then glass windows is starting to make wierd glitch effect? Bc i have this and i hope it will be fixed, i just tried to use this mod maden by sonic for raytrayced sound and though it works perfectly but it makes that wierd glitch with all glassy surfaces. sry my english.

Performance improvements are always welcome! My GTX 970 is beggin' for 'em lol. Thanks for all your hard work. I can't imagine how difficult it must be to program graphics.

Can you fix the way block updates work? sometimes lapis placed down into a space surrounded on 3 sides will not illuminate the 4rth at all...

Optimization and cleanup is a very important part of the development cycle. Not only makes the project run better, but makes room for more features and let's you develop easier. I believe it's totally worth it, once in a while, to have a release focused on cleaner, more performant code only. As always, keep up the incredible work!
