SEUS PTGI E5 Release!
Added 2019-01-21 09:06:52 +0000 UTC
SEUS PTGI E5 is here! This update isn't as big as the last, but some new features that aim to enhance your gameplay experience are here.
E4 was the first version of SEUS PTGI that I actually tried survival gameplay with, and it led to some insights. The most distracting problem for me was how long lighting takes to update, and all of the ugly artifacts that this can cause (you'll know what I'm talking about if you've broken a torch or glowstone in a cave).
So, I worked on improving and reworking the GI filtering so it could handle not relying to heavily on temporal reuse. You can adjust the GI responsiveness with a new option (Raytracing Options > GI Responsiveness). At the new default setting of 3, GI is 8x more responsive!
This opened up a new opportunity, screen-space GI tracing, which enables anything in screen-space to cast indirect shadows and light (including mobs!). It's something I've tried before, but the low responsiveness of lighting just didn't play well with it. You can see those skeletons look much more integrated into the scene, casting nice indirect shadows!
The other most distracting thing was sunlight leaking in caves, which is worse than ever now that this light bounces around with full GI. So, I've added a fix that should cure the problem in caves with no nearby areas where sky is visible. It can cause issues with large outdoor overhanging structures, so there's an option to disable it (Raytracing Options > Sunlight Leak Fix).
I'm also experimenting with a few optimizations, and there are a few new options in the Raytracing Options section, check them out!
Ray traced reflections may look a little noisier, I'd like to get your feedback on that.
Here are the most noteworthy changes for this update:
- Added screen-space GI tracing (and an option to toggle it)
- Added (very rough and early) screen-space reflection tracing (and an option to toggle it)
- Fixed some broken rain reflection stuff
- Added rain splash to water
- Added a new fix for sunlight leaking in caves (and an option to toggle it)
- Added material darkening when wet (during rain)
- Added rain fog
- Added option for GI Responsiveness, all but the lowest value show big improvements in GI responsiveness
- Added option for GI filter quality (set to Low for a small speedup at the cost of GI denoising quality)
- General improvements for GI filter, lower GI Responsiveness settings show improved detail in indirect lighting and shadows
The requirements for running this shaderpack are as follows:
- Minecraft 1.12.2 (no 1.13 support yet)
- OptiFine 1.12.2 HD U E2
- Options > Video Settings > Details > Alternate Blocks: OFF
- Options > Video Settings > Details > Trees: Fancy or Fast (Smart may break lighting)
- Options > Video Settings > Quality > Natural Textures: OFF
- Options > Video Settings > Shaders > Shadow Quality: 1x
- Options > Video Settings > Shaders > Old Lighting : DEFAULT
- Resource packs with custom block models may cause issues
This shaderpack may work on older Minecraft versions, however compatibility is not guaranteed.
It is recommended that you run this shaderpack at 1080p or lower, since frame rate will drop dramatically as the game resolution increases.

it is a folder in a folder extract it then take out the file that is in it and put it in resourcepacks folder

2019-04-25 09:04:46 +0000 UTCTry the most recent one... it came out April 7th. Maybe you did something wrong too, or you didn't read requirements or instructions clearly. Maybe describe what went wrong and someone can help you rather than saying you wasted money.
2019-04-20 23:52:17 +0000 UTCI JUST WASTED $10 FOR IT NOT TO WORK!!!!!
2019-04-19 10:34:28 +0000 UTCThe framerate is poor due to the raw computing power Path/Ray Tracing requires, getting that framerate at all in 1440p is a good feat since the RT cores are not being used in the RTX cards to render PTGI and RTR.

2019-04-07 04:05:37 +0000 UTCafter experimenting, the answer to this inquiry appears to be "YES!"

2019-04-07 03:11:39 +0000 UTCHello! Could someone please advise if the PTGI feature can be disabled at-will? Is it compulsory with this version, or can it be disabled as-needed? I'm interested in trying out the PTGI lighting, but if it doesn't run especially great on my setup, I'm hoping that I'll have the ability to turn it on and off for when i'm showing off, and when I just want to play. It'd be nice if I could do so without having to manage two separate installs. Thanks in advance.

2019-04-07 00:25:40 +0000 UTC2080 TI Overclocked @ 2100 mhz + 9900k @ 4.9Ghz and I can't run this at more than 35-40 fps at 1440p? Damn that's poorly optimized.

2019-04-06 21:25:38 +0000 UTCFor some reason both in E4 and E5 I have no lights save the sun and moon. Torch flames appear black against the background, (RTX 2070) 1.12 btw

2019-04-06 08:10:42 +0000 UTCJust uploaded a bunch of 3440x1440p photos to my Flickr using SEUS PTGI E5 and Vanilla-Normals-Renewed texture pack, I hope you enjoy. I'm having so much fun playing with the lighting!!! https://www.flickr.com/photos/genotypejim

2019-04-05 08:36:09 +0000 UTCJust getting a black screen. It works(minus the lighting during the night time) in 1.13 but in 1.12.2, i just have a black screen
Patrick Cumming
2019-04-05 04:36:06 +0000 UTC60FPS on GTX1070, so make sure you really are running recommended settings. At first I missed the 1920x1080 part. Try that. Also, if you are running 4k and your 1920 is in a small window, then do not! make the window bigger! The game will render that in full 4k then. You'll either have to play with the smaller window, on another screen, or change your desktop resolution to match.

2019-04-04 20:21:24 +0000 UTCTherein lies your problem. Intel doesn't have GPUs. If you mean integrated graphics, then, no, you can't run anything on those. You can barely run photoshop on integrated graphics. If budget or chassis space is a problem, NVidia now well external graphics dsp units that are cheap and connect with USB I believe.
John Lardinois
2019-04-04 20:20:56 +0000 UTC1.12.2 compatible only, he states. Possible compatibility with lower versions (not guaranteed), but definitely not compatible with 13.2.

2019-04-04 20:18:02 +0000 UTCI'm not sure how SEUS works, but in many games, nightvision type effects don't work with various kinds of shaders because some shaders work by reading each pixel and modifying it post-render. (post-processing). So any changes to brightness like nightvision would have the shader "adapt" to it, if you're using something like an HDR shader or auto level adjustment. However, I suspect that's not the case for SEUS, since I believe it actually changes how the game propagates light. Worth mentioning though.
John Lardinois
2019-04-04 20:14:11 +0000 UTCGive me details and I'll help. -- What's happening (specifically)? What's expected to happen? -- What steps to reproduce the problem? -- What have you tried / not tried? -- Did you test that it worked before SEUS?

John Lardinois
2019-04-04 20:05:34 +0000 UTCHaving the same problem, but only on 1 computer. tried exact same settings on another computer and worked fine, what graphics card do you have if you dont mind me asking?

2019-04-04 18:08:56 +0000 UTCSomething about this release ruins the Dark Forest biome for me: it looks like the GI is completely washing out the lighting in the forest itself, removing all the soft shading (lightmaps, I'm guessing) that make it darker under the forest canopy. Instead, it's all just one blanket "shadow" since the sun doesn't reach under at all, and it's all the same brightness. I ended up going back to v.1.0.0, even though the water shader isn't working in that release.

2019-04-04 13:38:11 +0000 UTCtotally broken on intel GPUs! not that it would have work well anyway

2019-04-04 13:03:08 +0000 UTCGo to surface options and turn on physically based max roughness. This seemed to give the effect a POM would have but more mild.

2019-04-04 03:43:56 +0000 UTCI love it! The buzz convinced me to join patreon just for you. My GPU is freaking out but it looks great. I really like the changes to the water and the transparency. You're probably aware but heads up end rods stop glowing up close. Torches in hand on 1k texture packs don't give light until placed. Looking forward to POM options. Keep up the good work!
Jordan Bennett
2019-04-04 03:14:00 +0000 UTCWill we see POM in this pack soon? Missing it

2019-04-03 21:35:41 +0000 UTCI noticed the shades, reflection on glass, and glowing lights would start to wave after playing for like 5 minutes. This effect become more obvious over time. And the reflection would be bugged after 10 minutes. Turning off and on the shader pack or quit and reenter the map won't solve this issue. The only solution to this is restarting the game.

2019-04-03 21:29:31 +0000 UTCIt may be beacuse i am using 1.13.2 but the torchs dont give ANY light at night, only at distance, when i am close to them they give no light.

2019-04-03 14:40:48 +0000 UTCHey man I can't seem to get mine working. Did you have any issues with it?

2019-04-03 10:27:25 +0000 UTCHey all, got it up and running first go, WOO! So now what resource packs will work with this so I can get some better textures than vanilla?
James Rolton
2019-04-03 08:34:38 +0000 UTCGot it working! On my pc with a GTX 1060, Ryzen 7 2600, 16gb DDR4 ram One question though, do night vision potions not affect it? That would be an amazing feature to add.
2019-04-03 05:05:29 +0000 UTCCan't seem to get it to work yet still
Zak Bunt
2019-04-03 04:00:26 +0000 UTCIf I had to guess, it's most likely that your card is not powerful enough to really run it. I'm currently using an R7 2700x, and an RTX 2080, I can sometimes only manage 40fps depending on whats on my screen. It could also be that maybe you don't have enough RAM allocated to minecraft which is causing it to crash due to memory issues.

2019-04-02 16:38:26 +0000 UTCThanks for the step by step but I figured it out by my own *proud* lol! Anyway is there a way to change resolution? I put mine on 2560-1440 I get like 15 fps but it works lol. Taking down anti alaising a bit gives quite a lot of fps so I will experiment with that!

2019-04-02 07:04:57 +0000 UTCPlease be mindful i was making a mistakes during the install and figured it out. Here is how... Step one, download OPTIFINE 1.12.2 MAKE SURE IT'S THIS VERSION. Step two, Make a launchable 1.12.2 version of minecraft. ... to do this, click " launch options " then the ( Add New ) next to the (+) sign. Add 1.12.2 to the launcher. you do NOT need to create a name. Step three is to run it. What i did was click news .. that brought me to the main page.. click the green down arrow. then launch the correct version. 1.12.2 Step four, close the game install optifine 1.12.2 just run it. Step five, this is where i got lost for a bit. Load the OPTIFINE version from the drop down that was created from the previous sep * STEP FOUR * THEN go to options after minecraft is loaded, this is where i made my mistake that took me a hot minute to figure out... ** DO NOT CLICK ON RESOURCE PACKS THIS IS THE WRONG BUTTON ** Instead click on VIDEO SETTINGS from there you can access " Shaders " Look to the lower left there is a button called ( Shaders folder ) with a down arrow to the right. Click it. It opens where you drop the ZIP file from his experimental builds. Step 6. Go back to minecraft and click on the shader pack named PTGI E5.ZIP You are now done.

2019-04-01 19:54:08 +0000 UTCHey buddy, calm the Nether down. If this is your first rodeo with Minecraft modding, that really shows that you just came here for the path tracing update. Do some Googling, and come back to me. Users have been figuring out how to add mods on their own for many, many years. Look at Optifine's documentation. Look at Curse's or Minecraft Forum's documentation. Don't be a dick. I would have been willing to write out an explanation if you hadn't asked like that. Being here assumes you already can add mods like a big boy.

2019-04-01 19:02:21 +0000 UTCHOW the fuck do you install this shit? Can't you just include a step by step toturial? I have no idea how. Where to put this shaders folder man? :/

2019-03-31 06:16:37 +0000 UTCGrass and tree animations dont seem to work, I have everything set to "ON" but the only thing that seems to work is the water ripple effect. any way to fix this? also there seems to be a vary large radius under my character that cancels out all light sources, place a torch down and theres no light until Im like 100 blocks away and it just about leaves my view.

2019-03-25 05:23:38 +0000 UTC我建议还是翻译成英文好 UCM said (1)at night,if you fly up you will see the light come through the edge of the blocks.(2)flames dos not have any light, and the light of glow stone's light range is much more closer than e4 so i prefer e4 than e5 (I translate the comment for you, don't know if it really help you to improve the shader or just doing a thing you don't really care but hope pgti can do better, thx)

2019-03-05 23:32:49 +0000 UTCI see a lot of other people commenting about their low frame rates. Being careful to set my settings as specified in the post, my game runs perfectly fine at 1080p with a 1080ti: I get upwards of 70 fps in most places and at least 50 in the most complex scenes.

2019-02-27 08:45:18 +0000 UTCE5 is pretty good right now!But there is still some BUG about the sunlight of enclosed space. The shader setting can solve the problem that too dark at the night. I am expecting a post about the new version.Like E6。Bring me more and more shock and surprise.

2019-02-13 00:19:14 +0000 UTCThere're no block light such as sea lanterns, glow stones, but torches do have lights. I can running @2k40fps (RTX 2080ti) but still feel lagging(Renewed 1.0.0 and E2 doesn't have that problem during 30fps). By the way Renewed 1.0.0 always flashing after playing a while on both of my RTX2080ti could you fix that? Thank you!
