Hey, all!
The first experimental version of SEUS with LPVGI (Light Propagation Volume Global Illumination) is here!
LPVGI in SEUS has the power to totally replace Minecraft's lighting and allows infinite bounced lighting from all light types with correct occlusion!
Of course, working within the limitations of OptiFine has made implementing it quite challenging. Don't expect a playable and robust result from this first release!
Just like with SEUS PTGI E1, there are some important things to keep in mind!
Here are the requirements for running this shaderpack:
- OptiFine 1.12.2 HD U D3 or newer
- Options > Video Settings > Details > Alternate Blocks: OFF
- Options > Video Settings > Quality > Natural Textures: OFF
- Options > Video Settings > Shaders > Shadow Quality: 1x
- Options > Video Settings > Shaders > Old Lighting: DEFAULT
- A resource pack with NO CUSTOM BLOCK MODELS
There are many unfinished aspects of this shaderpack, here are the biggest issues yet to be solved.
- Only glowstone acts as a light source for now, but full outdoor lighting with sunlight is present
- Water, ice, and stained glass blocks are invisible (I'm still working out how I'm going to fit them into the pipeline, since LPVGI takes a lot of renderbuffers.)
- This version deviated from the main development branch of SEUS quite a long time ago, so it's pretty bare-bones.
- The render distance of LPVGI is dependent on your game resolution, up to a certain extent. I've yet to have the lighting transition to Minecraft's lighting outside the volume, so areas outside the volume look broken.
- Light from the sky takes a few seconds to "fill" the scene.
- Light can leak on block corners in caves
- Blocks that are not full-blocks (like stairs, doors, slabs, etc.) can cause strange behavior. Light can leak through stair roofs.
If you haven't joined us on the SEUS Patreon Discord server, please do! I'd love to hear your feedback and suggestions there! Also, it's the best place to report issues if you experience any.
