Sex is great but have you ever read exposition from one of your favorite comic artists?

albsmalbs

Oh, but you know WE'RE reading all that text! ❤️

Mari

How hard has it been to NOT use your normal lettering style? And I'm beginning to think you craft stories and storyboards solely to give you an excuse to draw hands.

Shane Openo

Y'all are fantastic, thanks for your insights. I'm really lucky to have patrons who engage to this level, especially those of you who always catch a grammatical error, poor word choice. Y'all deserve a cut for editing, lmao.

Not me trying to read EVERY PIECE OF WRITING EVERYWHERE

Racheal Winson

I happened to listen to an episode about unnecessary modifiers by James Thayer recently, after the lettering was done of course, haha.

Caroline Catlett Gates

Thanks! Yah, the writing is clunky in areas here. Working off older scripts hasn't been the best for some of these.

Caroline Catlett Gates

Haha, for real, reddit is literally dangerous.

William Harris

The art is fantastic, I think! It sets the mood so well, "calm before the hurricane" vibes. The writing... what I would do is look for adverbs and see if they can be removed (and replace the words the adverbs are modifying), and look for phrases that add nothing. eg "I must admit" could become "I admit" or even be cut completely "I was exceedingly apprehensive" -> "I was terrified"

Jimmy Rimmer

I specifically made it a point to not make the number legible/real to avoid this, haha. Reddit is a nightmare for that kind of thing.

Caroline Catlett Gates

Should've picked a real phone number so we could spam it.

William Harris

The hands were the quickest bit btw, finished those up in 20 minutes, haha.

Caroline Catlett Gates

Ha! That's why I shared the drawing without the text. That will be happening a lot, lol. These pages will need be reformatted in the future of promotion, platform image limitations, and printing, so everything beneath needs to be fully rendered.

Caroline Catlett Gates

I think that's my gripe with it. It feels static, but is a necessary page. I'm not great with giving these idle moments the same life as the chaotic instances, but I'll need to get used to it for TVD. Trying a lot with the series, and I'll need to improve on environments devoid of action. I like how Sydney's design turned out however. She's exactly as I envisioned her.

Caroline Catlett Gates

The only thing that doesn't work is that you had to cover up that masterpiece of a phone!

William Harris

It’s not very dynamic - there’s no motion to put emotions into - and hands always suck to work on. But I think it works. We get a little fun Eli Easter egg, the colors are warm and rich, and it very much feels like the antelope bending down to the water…and not knowing the crocodile lies just below.

Neil S

Ha! Diabolical.

Caroline Catlett Gates

Who is the real monster here: the flesh-flensing, blood-drinking eldritch horrors, or the lady who has MULTIPLE PAPERMATE ERASABLE PENS WITH THE CAPS OFF.

Neil S

Easily the weakest page of "Sydney." I don't know why I struggled with it so much. The composition of the bottom panel was poorly planned. Hope to have better luck moving forward.
