Carnegie 2005

...Tickets to attend the elusive duet's rare, singular night performance in New York City were reported to sell in the jaw-dropping range of five digits. Nevertheless, the momentous concert would sell out mere hours following accouncements of the two prestigious musicians' arrival to the city.

The Velluto Duet used the entire sum of the proceeds from what many privileged attendees described to be the most spectacular event they had ever witnessed within the walls of Carnegie Hall to repair and rebuild hundreds of homes across the city of New Orleans affected by the catastrophic impact of Hurricane Katrina. The influential pairs' far-reaching altruism was not made public until a decade after their iconic performance in New York City...

I want to say it's the latter. Also, in my universe the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra is regarded as one of the most extraordinary in the world for that fact that it is made up almost entirely of vampires from various covens all over New Orleans, with Eli as their concertmaster and Ellie their principal cellist. The director of the LPO hilariously is human and is fully aware of all of the supernatural entities in his presence, having worked with many of them for several decades. He presents himself as being unfazed by it all, but I'm sure it troubles him to a degree. His love of the artform and having the privilege of having the role of conductor for the greatest in the world overshadows any apprehension about the potential danger he's surrounded by, and it would be the same for the mortal musicians of the group and high class consumers.

I didn’t realize that they were so high profile. Does that pose a problem with music scholars who recognize a similar style between them and musicians from approximately 100 years ago? Or is it sort of an open secret among the elite?

Ha! Dark as hell. I imagine it's a sort of mafia style situation. The covens are going to have an interest in doing their part for the community that they have no choice to feed upon, like keeping healthy livestock. Looks gross typed out, but it's a reality one must confront with a story like this. I believe the Castellos are outliers in that way though. They belong to a coven noted by the city as being home to several sympathetic vampires, with Ellie in particular retaining a fondness for humans and seeking their companionship.

Of course they want everyone's homes repaired: it's so much easier to hunt for dinner when it's tucked into bed.
