Ellie was accepted within the coven as a "vampire" with Eli and Dot's protection upon their arrival to New Orleans, but it's not an identifier they like to throw around, and her presence is a contentious topic. The most traditional vampires are Eli and Dot, while it's believed that Ellie is something else entirely or an extremely rare variant as a result of the circumstances of her transformation, which was violent, messy, and involved the contribution of two conflicting variants, one of which attempted to kill her. Any other pure forms of Ellie's variant are unable to exist harmoniously in the same region or city, and will attack one another, and they are never found to be accepted into traditional covens. This small entry implies Ellie instinctively hunted and destroyed Margaret, who had attempted to escape pursuit in her home country.

Just out of curiosity, how do Ellie's kind refer to themselves? Do they call themselves vampires, or do they refer to themselves with a specific genus classification?
