There were 3 robots in this episode that were actually on Robot Wars: Invertebrat, Cerberus and Plunderbird 4. Explosives, corrosives, acids and untethered projectiles were all banned in Robot Wars and only house robot Sgt Bash had a flamethrower. I think certain explosives or projectiles were allowed in the Battlebots reboot (Brutus and Double Jeopardy had them). I would be down for Robot Wars reactions if you're down for it.

Robot Wars in the UK was presented by Craig Charles - or as you know him, Dave Lister.

That'll be Olivia Newton-John in other parts of Grease. The background song is pretty similar to "Hopelessly Devoted To You" if you want to search online.

Don't know if you have it in the states but this episode is based on Robot wars which used to be popular in the 90s/ 00s - might be fun to check out if you haven't seen it
Sorry just watched the ending where you referenced it!

Nick was a waiter in a restaurant and was trying to do stand-up but failing really badly as stand-up just isn't his thing, so if he hadn't met Simon he may never have become an actor. Also Simon jokes about the girlfriend who introduced him to Nick saying he dumped her and kept Nick! 🤣
Mark Jones
2024-11-26 17:48:56 +0000 UTC
They never grew up together, they met because Nick worked with Simon's girlfriend and she told Simon she worked with a really funny guy and that's how they first met, then Simon got Nick a part in Spaced even though Edgar Wright wasn't convinced at first, and the rest is history.

Reece Shearsmith as Dexter. He's awesome. One fourth of the League of Gentlemen which you may already know (I'm still watching this so not sure if you mention it later!)

My favourite episode! Reece Shearsmith is hilarious in this. I don't think the scene where Tim and Daisy almost kiss is a reference to something. I could be wrong. I think it's just Tim wanting to role play with Philippa Forester, who a lot of people had a crush on the 90s. She was one of the presenters on Robot Wars.

Tall guy on the right: the builder from IT Crowd that pissed everywhere.
And yes, that's the woman from The Thick Of It, and also in that scene is the son of the guy who played the same role in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (the big Native American fella).
