I never got on with Hatties version of Holly, Normans portrayal is by far my favourite, I love his dry deadpan delivery. The problem Hattie had was that Kryten made Holly less important, in seasons 1 and 2 Holly was more prominent.

2023-09-01 15:44:39 +0000 UTCI thought that Norman Lovett had primarily left because the relocation of production and his own relocation had moved them too far apart. Though I dare say there were interacting factors in that decisions as well! Norman and Hattie Hayridge were both brilliant deadpan standups and very popular on the ‘alternative comedy’ circuit at the time, including TV shows like Friday Night Live. I was sorry to see Norman go but I think they both brought something different and hilarious to their roles. For instance Hattie Hayridge’s Holly is just perfect in S4E4, White Hole. Looking forward to that one already :)

Norman only just edges it for me. Also I can't believe it's taken me this many years to realise, but the woman who entices Cat is the psychiatrist in IT Crowd!

2023-08-10 08:29:20 +0000 UTCAnother show I think you'd enjoy is Brittas Empire, it was a sitcom starring Chris Barrie who plays Rimmer, it was very silly but I loved it, it was set in a leisure centre and Rimmer was the inept manager.

2023-08-09 18:42:20 +0000 UTCYeah, I'd agree, Anger-less Rimmer here is hilarious. The C.L.I.T.O.R.I.S gag still makes me laugh after 33 years. But then Chris was always the best actor of them all. However I'm fond of Danny's "bum" version of Cat here too. He nails that. As for Holly - I know, but you'll get used to it. It's told that Norman could be quite difficult to work with back in the day, and for a number of reasons, he decided not to come back. My favourite of S3 is next I think (depending whether you go with broadcast order or VHS release order).
