"Mr. Klein, Miss Juliette and the band are here," announced the voice from the intercom on Mr. Klein’s desk. "Well, go ahead, let them come in," the man replied as he settled into his chair.
The door opened and a group of beautiful mutants walked through led by a girl with purple hair and feline features. A spidery-looking brunette mutant sat down on the office couch. At the other end of it, a girl who looked like the fusion of a woman with a guitar sat with her legs crossed. One of her four arms played with the strings that were strung across her tors.
On another sofa, a girl with two heads and a long prehensile tail sat down. Although her faces were the same, one of her heads had blonde hair with red highlights, while the other had black hair with purple highlights.
"So? What did you want to talk to us about, Phill?” Juliette said, pulling out the chair in front of the desk and sitting in it. She twirled her purple hair in her fingers while she waited for an answer.
“Well girls, first of all, I want to tell you that you guys are amazing and you are really talented. It is a pleasure working with you as your manager. That said, I wanted to know how willing you are to… make certain changes to your style,” said Phill. He adjusted his glasses as he tried to read Juliette's expression.
“Change our style? Are you serious?” she said slightly annoyed. Her bandmates were somewhat perplexed by the request as well.
“Yes… well, I’m not saying you should change everything. It's not your images that are the issue. I just want you to consider expanding your musical talents,” Phil said, and then after a short pause he sighed. "Actually girls, the issue is that punk rock isn't doing so well in the charts right now. Pop is the hottest thing, and I think you could expand your fanbase if you-"
"Oh come on, are you serious?" said Violet as her hand fell across the strings on her stomach creating a horrific sound. "I did not modify my body to touch that shit."
“Girls, come on. You know that mutant artists like Synergy are the trend right now. You guys have even played with her.”
"Yes, as a way to complement our two DIFFERENT styles," Juliette said annoyed. "I like Synergy, and their music is ok… but we don't want to play it."
"Ok, fine! But we have to find a way to attract more publicity." Phil got up to pace, clearly frustrated. He scratched his head as he thought. "Maybe, I don't know, look sexier on stage."
"I wear a bikini in my performances." Sinfony said with one head, "and I really don't think I need to show even more skin. Besides, I'm sexy enough as it is," she finished with her other head.
Phil stopped pacing and just looked at them. "Please don't misunderstand me. You're all very sexy. It's just that the label wants us to bring in more revenue. They want to see you at the top of the charts, not lingering around mid tier."
“We want that too, but on our own terms. We've already been working on new music,” Juliette said as she once again plucked away mindlessly at her strings.
"It's almost done actually. We should be able to start recording any day," said Nella, the spider girl as she twirled two drumsticks in her lower hands.
“Ok look, I was just making a suggestion, trying to help you out. Don't change anything if you don't want to, but you should try to be a little more… I don't know… intense may be the word."
"Oh you want intense? We'll show you intense," Juliette said, smiling defiantly. "Come on girls, it's time to show everyone who the queens of mutant music are."
The four mutants got up and headed for the door. Juliette opened it then turned back to her manager. “Remember this well, Phil. ROCKEO AND JULIETTE will be chart toppers, but only if we are true to ourselves.” And with that they left, shutting the door behind them.
