Scavengers’ Deep – Map 24

The Scavengers’ Deep is a reminder of the amount of work that went into underground structures during the great war. Generally, the elves only built underground when hiding their breeding and research facilities, whereas the forces of the kingdoms, assisted by the dwarves, were constantly building underground as the elves were unrelenting and would completely raze any surface defences that they defeated.

But the structures now known as the Scavengers’ Deep are atypical, an elven complex mixing some (ruined) surface structures, natural caves, and significant sprawling underground complexes dedicated to research, training, and breeding their slave species.

This is the twenty-fourth map in the Scavengers’ Deep series – this map sits directly east of last month’s Map 23, and south of Map 16.

The larger passages on this map connect to Map 23 to the west, Map 16 to the north, Map 25 to the east, and a forthcoming map to the south. Smaller connections and caves also lead back to these same maps.

The large circular room at the bottom of the map sits directly above the smaller circular room at the top of the map – it is a mezzanine level that looks down on that room and the pit below (which in turn leads to small caves deep below that).

The main point of interest on this map is this three-tiered circular chamber. The top level is a large circular mezzanine with ten smaller side chambers around the ring – these would be more accurately called niches, except being ten feet deep and twenty feet across. This level is reached by stairs on the level below (five sets of stairs, so the mezzanine floor is almost 40 feet above the chamber floor below). The main level is the smaller, 60-foot-wide circular room in the centre of the mezzanine above, which in turn contains a 20-foot-wide “pit” that descends roughly 50 feet to the bottom, where a small cave connects to the deeper caverns of the Deep.

The complex here contains some of our first hints at living spaces for the many elves and servants who worked within the complex. There are apartments of various sizes along several of the hallways, most in significant disarray.

Within the caves we have two underground streams. The one on the left that travels through the mushroom cavern flows from south to north, while the one on the upper right flows from north to south.
