Sandbox or linear visual novel?

Guys, came across the opinion that the sandbox in the form that I use in my game, it is not very convenient and interferes with the enjoyment of the game. Maybe it's true, but I really need your opinion, it's you who play my game :)
What is the advantage of such a sandbox for me personally: The most important thing is the side mini events that are not related to the main story. They are small, short, but they complement the game.
I may well rework the game, and make it not in the form of a sandbox and a full-fledged visual novel. Only such a reworking will make it impossible to add mini events, as the game will be more linear, although it will be a choice as befits such a genre.
