[Horny Dungeon] Devlog #003 - Tachie (Public)

First of all, I have to apologize for not updating here for so long. Like every naive gamedev wannabe, I severely underestimated how much work it takes. I (laughably) thought I could release a demo version in Jan... and now, in the middle of May, I'm still working on art assets here :'(

The Progress

So what took me so long? Where is the progress?

Well, as you can see from the video above, I've decided to adopt a 3D workflow.

It's a pretty taxing job to make Iris' model from scratch. From modeling, to texturing, to rigging, to animating, and to shading. Especially I'd like it to look "my style", not a generic 3D style, so I have to write a customized render pipeline in Unity.

And to support a wide range of poses/animation, she has a crazy amount of bones:

Why did I take such a long and complicated approach? Could I not have used 2D instead?

I want this game to have plenty of animation. While there's nothing wrong with the classic 'text and static images' style of visual novels, it doesn't align with my vision for Horny Dungeon. I want vivid, lively characters that feel real on screen. To be honest, I'm not the best writer out there; using animation might be my best chance to bring these characters to life.

After exploring frame-by-frame, spine/live2d, and 3D approaches for animation, I determined that while it requires a complex setup initially, using 3D will ultimately save me more time.

Where is Seggs?

To be honest, there isn't animation for sexual scenes yet. I've made some basic animation clips, like breathing and blinking, to bring more life to her, but sex actions will take more time.

And unfortunately, Patreon doesn't allow me to embed NSFW videos on it... so even if I later make actual good animated lewd, I'm not sure how to present them to you.

Maybe just screenshot here and link to my Twitter? Is Twitter still cool? Is there a video host site that's okay with NSFW stuff? (I've checked Vimeo and Streamable, but both ban explicit content.) If you have a better solution, please let me know.

The Future

I do believe I've solved the hardest part, which is to establish a 3D workflow that fits my style (writing a custom render pipeline is no joke). But I don't want to overpromise again, so I can't give a proper schedule for the demo day yet. Sorry for that.

My next short-term goal is, of course, to make sexual content for Iris. I aim to have the following content for the first demo version:

1. Skirt-lifting. It's not a sex scene, just a random thing that you can order her to do in the conversation UI. (If the affection between you is high enough. Otherwise you get a disgusted face as the video above shows).

2. Blowjob. Probably the only sex scene in the demo. I plan to make it a bit controllable, e.g. move mouse up and down to control how fast she moves. I'd rather have only one good, animated and interactive scene than two static ones.

3. Few miscellaneous interactions, like clicking her boobs to... make her angry and lose affection, or whatsoever.

Again, I'm very sorry for the lack of significant progress, and I truly appreciate everyone who is still willing to support me. While I can't set a specific date, I promise that from now on I'll update my progress here more frequently.
