Here I’ve made some minor changes to what I consider the character’s classic look—the one that largely exists in my brain and across a bunch of sketches, not in any comics yet. I’ve modified the shape of his gorget, and added more cloth detailing under the armor to add a little extra je ne sais quois. The big chunky saddlebags, belts and chaps remain.

And here’s Grwn. He’s older and battle-scarred. At this stage of the design I’d only generally figured out where I wanted to put his tattoos and scars, not what they’d actually be so he’s gonna be in flux all the way through the finished pages. In the Wilfrith and Grwn key art from an earlier post, you can see some of the tattoos better realized. There’ll be a lot of illuminated manuscript imagery in this story, so I wanted to carry that through with Grwn's tattoos.

Wilfrith as he remembers himself years earlier—younger, leaner, a lot more naïve. I wanted there to be strong echoes of his contemporary outfit but with an altered silhouette and sort of a less refined fit. It was fun to come up with a similar-but-different pauldron-gorget design for him.
