OVERLORD- CH-83. Cutscene – Treasure House and Temple
Added 2025-02-19 03:51:07 +0000 UTCAinz placed Pandora's Actor in a treasure vault that no one could enter without permission. He used Pandora as the final line of defense here, but also because he didn't want anyone to see it. After arriving in the new world, Ainz experienced various events. In this world where people were generally weak, he hadn't encountered any serious situations that required him to use the treasure vault.
The biggest crisis so far was likely when Shalltear clashed with a knight of comparable strength. Fortunately, Sebastian's timely assistance prevented further losses. As a result of these relatively minor events, Ainz had essentially forgotten about the treasury—and along with it, Pandora's Actor, who was guarding it.
As Pandora's creator, Ainz had complicated feelings toward him. However, as someone with common sense, he began to think, 'Isn't Pandora's Actor too pitiful?' This thought led Ainz to assign Pandora a special task, which he completed in just four days—a testament to his exceptional efficiency. If only his personality were a bit more normal.
"Well then, Albedo, please give the Ainz Ooal Gown Ring I gave you to Shizu for the time being." Ainz said, handing one of his rings to the automaton maid.
A ring was required to enter the treasury. However, stepping into the deeper parts of the temple with the ring on would trigger the powerful defense systems inside. This was the security mechanism in place.
Albedo seemed visibly upset about handing over the ring, reluctant to part with it. Finally, Ainz had no choice but to say, "Why don't you stay here, and Shizu can come in with me?" Only then did Albedo reluctantly surrender the ring.
"Well, Pandora's Actor." Ainz said in a profound tone, "Let me see the results of your work and the quality of your sculptures."
Having entrusted Pandora with the task of sculpting and filling the empty spaces in the mausoleum, Ainz now stepped into the corridor to inspect the results.
"This is the mausoleum." Ainz said in a low voice, addressing Albedo.
"The Spirit Temple?" Albedo asked.
As the Guardian Overseer, Albedo possessed extensive knowledge about various locations within Nazarick. However, there were some places she had never personally visited, such as this treasure vault. She knew of its existence and that Pandora's Actor served as its guardian and Nazarick's financial director. Yet, this was her first time entering the mausoleum and seeing Pandora in person.
The space was quiet and serene, illuminated only by dim, swaying lights—a fitting place for souls to rest.
Ainz felt a pang of guilt for disturbing the peace but pressed on, "This is where all the world-class items in Nazarick are stored. Albedo, how much do you know about world-class items?"
"As far as I know, they are the most powerful items owned by the Supreme Beings. Thanks to your generosity, I now possess one of them—the [Hell Abyss]. That's the extent of my knowledge."
"Indeed, your [Hell Abyss] is one of them." Ainz confirmed.
He then provided a brief explanation of world-class items. In the lore of the online game *YGGDRASIL*, there was a world tree covered in leaves. However, due to the existence of massive monsters that devoured the leaves, the tree withered until only nine leaves remained. These leaves became the predecessors of the nine main worlds of *YGGDRASIL*. World-class items were akin to these fallen leaves—each one equivalent to an entire world.
These items were designed to possess immense power, and many of them indeed had extraordinarily abnormal abilities.
As Ainz and Albedo walked forward, they soon arrived at a special corridor lined with armed statues on both sides. In the room before the throne of Nazarick, there was a defensive magic circle with Golems deployed, but those Golems were unarmed. In contrast, the statues here were equipped with items of tremendous power, rivaling even Ainz's own gear.
"A-Ainz-sama… are these statues modeled after the Supreme Beings?" Albedo asked, her voice trembling slightly.
"You've figured it out. Yes, these immortal avatars are statues based on my former companions. But… they're not very impressive, are they? They look ugly, don't they? I think they're not even one-tenth as handsome as the originals…"
"As the child of the Supreme Beings, it's impossible for me not to see their greatness." Albedo replied.
"Is that so?" Ainz forced a smile. Being here inevitably made his mood heavy.
These immortal avatars were created by Ainz to commemorate his guildmates who had left the game. Before quitting, they had transferred their weapons and paid items to Ainz, saying, "Here, take these." To honor them and to wear their equipment, Ainz used paid items to create these Golems, which could wield the weapons. However, due to his lack of skill in character creation, the statues turned out distorted—some with fat or stubby limbs, others with oversized, misshapen heads, resembling nightmare creatures.
When Ainz looked at these statues, he felt a deep sense of embarrassment. They were meant to honor his friends, but their grotesque appearance made him feel as though he had failed them. Beyond the embarrassment, however, was a more profound emotion.
"It's so lonely." Ainz murmured as he gazed at the statues.
Indeed, his motivation for building this room was loneliness. He wanted to create a space where his companions could symbolically live on, even if only in spirit. That's why he named this place the "Spirit Temple"—a resting place for the companions who had left or disappeared in *YGGDRASIL*.
'Even so, I still want to believe that my companions have also been transported to this unknown world, and perhaps they are somewhere out there...' Ainz thought.
"Pandora's Actor." Ainz called out, trying to dispel the loneliness in his heart.
"Show me the statue you made." Ainz instructed.
"Yes, sir!" Pandora saluted in what he believed was a cool and standard manner. Though it made Ainz's nonexistent stomach ache, he didn't reprimand him, not wanting to disrupt the atmosphere.
"In order to meet Ainz-sama's request, a considerable amount of data crystals was consumed." Pandora reported.
"It's fine. The cost is worth it." Ainz said, waving his hand.
Rationally, it was an unnecessary expense, but emotionally, it felt entirely justified.
Ainz walked to a section of the corridor where three empty spaces had once been. Now, they were filled with exquisitely crafted statues.
