The scariest part in this movie was having to confront the implications of my own attachment style. Poor mother I get it, things are hard and grief can really take hold on your outlook on life if you let it. Great movie this was my first watch!

This is another top tier scary movie similar to The Descent category. That one plays with claustrophobia and this one plays with mental health.
My interpretation
Bababook is not some evil demon. It’s just a bundle of dark emotions, anxiety, frustration and anger inside the main lead. She tries so hard to get rid of it but eventually realises that she has to live with it or put it behind some locked door. However, the grief is so extreme that it is difficult to forget and hence she has to visit it once in a while to maintain her sanity.
This is an elite tier horror movie. Rewatched it after a long time.
Another psychological horror movie I would recommend is The Machinist and Identity.
