Lan for me is a weird name for a Girl because im a huge fan of the Wheel of Time Books (books not TV Show!!) and there Lan is a "stoic, fiercely skilled warrior and the uncrowned king of the fallen realm of Malkier. He is known for his "stone face," extreme height, gray-streaked hair tied back with a hadori, and sharp blue eyes, all of which project an aura of intimidating professionalism"... But i "love" you Girl, as funny and very intelligent Reactress :)

The father and mother of Daenerys (mother of dragons and yes awful name so call her Dany) were brother and sister. That was the tradition in the Targaryen family as in the Pharaohs of ancient Egypt. The Pharaohs believed they were descended from gods so it would be wrong to mix their blood with ordinary people. The Targaryens did it to prevent the dragon power in their blood from being diluted. The author is contrasting that with Cersei and Jamie who are doing the same thing for entirely different and unworthy reasons.
