Some Advice on Poll Submissions

As I mentioned in the update: going forward the timeout period for submissions (that is how long you have to wait after winning a poll to submit again) is 6 months. That is - anyone who wins from this point onward has to wait six months to win again. Because of this keep in mind that you should make extra sure not to include someone's characters without their permission. But there is another thing I wanted to go over real quick: some advice about how to make your submission more appealing.

A lot of the same people and characters win, and part of this is just popularity and familiarity with the character. But there is some other advice that might help.

- Don't include a wall of text or links. Remember that the people reading these to vote on them are probably going to skim the submissions. If they don't immediately know the character they are going to be looking for a quick, interesting submission statement. Instead of posting five different reference links either post one link to a public gallery (that is a gallery that doesn't require a account on the platform), or a single image link.

- focus on the scene. There is a lot of lamentation about how Boobwalls always win, but they often do not: even the boobwalls that win have some kind of scene around them. Pure size isn't what people vote for - its an interesting, cute, or sexy scene around the boobs.

- Be excited and express that. I do my best to give everyone a snappy one line title in the poll but you can also help this by making your submission sound exciting: speak "in voice" like you are enthusiastically explaining the idea to a friend. Part of this voice is also having a mood and personality beyond simply stating the elements as a bullet point list of facts: but likewise avoid going excessively with purple prose that might loose the reader's interest.

-  Be shameless in trend chasing. No seriously I mean it. If there is something the community is excited about, or an image I posted people liked: exploit that excitement, remember that familiarity or excitement helps. I'm not saying just plagiarize whatever is popular, but keep in mind what people are interested in when you think about your submission.

six months starts with this poll not those already in time out.

Re-reading the rules on this, could I get clarification on whether my OC Liz can't be used in a suggestion for 6 months, or does that mean I cannot submit an idea for another 6 months?

Iliara_Kantira

Hehe, I'll be free just in time for October

Iliara_Kantira

it's only in place from this point forward so won't affect anyone until this poll.

ohh, thank you for reminding me about the timeout period. didn't know that was a thing

Yeah, be excited about your submission!! There's a reason Fitz's proposals win a lot. I'm in the time out box until September so I am rooting for all of you.

Tieryn

You are ok to make a submission. It's six months from this point forward - I'm not applying it retroactively.

So, am I still out for another 4 months, or am I okay to make a submission?
