[part 4]
Three weeks had passed since that day. Jade's hopes had mostly been satisfied. Like she had predicted, Fawn had grown tired of the gimmick pretty soon, and now they barely talked about it anymore. Sure, she acted much more bossy around her, but she would leave her alone for the most part. Besides a few more full body massages, and some minor chores that Fawn had made her do, only one time she felt close to tell her to fuck off and just tell her mother about the whole thing; Fawn was in the kitchen, studying with two of her classmates, and had called her while she was in her bedroom. She had casually told her to go get her sneakers since she was getting ready to go out, and Jade felt her cheeks burn from rage, but she had obliged. When she came back, shoes in her hand, she could swear that the two other girls were barely containing their laughter. She hoped that the little bitch had told them nothing, but there was no way to be sure. "Well, aren't you going to help me wear them?" Fawn had told her, but that was just too much. She had stormed off without saying a word, and had not spoken to her for the rest of the day. It had probably helped, since from that moment, Fawn had toned her game down a bit. And by the pace things were going, Jade judged that by the end of the month, everything would be back to normal again.
The doorbell rang, and Jade was the only one at home, since Fawn was out for her jog. She had probably forgotten her keys again, so she just let her ring a few more times, just for spite. When she opened the door, she saw the courier going back in his truck, and she managed to stop him at the last second. She signed the form, and she collected the package. It was addressed to her sister. While going back inside she wondered what it could be but she preferred to leave it alone. She would have opened it normally, but she was still trying not to get Fawn angry in any way. She was just too dangerous.
Fawn came home about half an hour later, and Jade heard her screams of delight from her room. She had probably found the package. Fawn stormed in her room, a remote control in her hand. "It's two weeks late, but it's here!" She sounded like a child opening her presents. What the hell was she so happy about? Jade was genuinely curious. "Quick, get me your red shoes!" Fawn could barely contain her enthusiasm. "What do you need them for? The party was ten days ago, and your feet are still too small!" Jade could not completely hide her satisfaction while saying that. "Ooh, sorry. Do i have to remind you that you have to do everything i say for about another month?" Fawn teased. Jade sighed and took the prized red heels from her shoe rack. "Here. Now what?" Fawn played with the remote control in her hand, and mumbled something about 95% being about enough. She carefully aimed the remote at the shoes, pressed the button... And absolutely nothing happened. "Impressive" Jade said sarcastically. Fawn seemed disappointed. "I can't believe it's a scam!" She kept pressing the button, but the results never changed. "Now can you explain how you threw your money away?" Jade had stopped trying to study. Watching her bratty sister uselessly trying to make something work was far more entertaining. "I swear i'm going to leave such a bad review of this thing!" Fawn now aimed the device at a number of things. She even tinkered with the number on the display, tuning it as low as 5%. Nothing seemed to happen, until the moment she decided to aim it at the plant that Jade had on her desk. It was a small cactus, and when Fawn had hit it, it had apparently disappeared in the dirt. Jade was incredulous, and Fawn had an unnerving smile on her face. "What the shit, Fae" Jade sounded alarmed "Why did you destroy my plant?" Fawn seemed to have obtained exactly what she wanted. "Look better!" she said to her sister. "In the vase" Jade didn't know what to look for, but after squinting for a while, she realized what she was looking at. The cactus hadn't been vaporized; it was much, much smaller. "Why... How!" Jade was astounded. "Can you believe this shit is unregulated in most of Asia?" Fawn said, not really answering her question. "But anyway, this doesn't seem to work very well. I tried on everything in your room, and the only thing that shrunk was that poor cactus". Jade was amazed. "So, your plan was to shrink my shoes?" Jade could still barely believe what had happened "Yup. But it seems i'll have to wait to get another one. This one's trash" Jade thought for a second, and came out with an explanation. "What if it only works on living things?". Fawn seemed confused for a second, but then it hit her. "That sounds right. That's probably why the vase didn't shrink along with the plant!" Jade agreed. "Well, only one way to find out. You can try it on something in the kitchen, i'm pretty sure you'll find plenty of stuff to shrink in the fridge." Fawn seemed thoughtful. "I actually have a better idea." She said, smiling. "Don't even think about it!" Jade caught the hint, and istinctively retracted behind her chair. "Fae, that thing's dangerous! Fawn st-" It fell on dead ears. Fawn had pressed the button without changing settings, which had left the percentage on 5%. She saw Jade's terrified face disappear inside her shirt, and her whole sweatsuit collapsed on its own. "Uh-oh". She said out loud.
