Hey all!
The last week has been pretty draining with adult IRL stuff I had to take care of. Days were fragmented with endless phone calls, meetings and emails that needed to be written. Pretty exhausting, especially when stuff keeps showing up in the middle of the work session.
Either way, I got a lot of stuff done. Mostly I've been working on new concepts and finishing up on stuff I showed the previous devlogs.
This Easter I want to do another colorbold hunt event! We will hide a total of 9 special colored kobolds in the world. If you find all of them and submit screenshot proof to a special Google form, you'll be entered into a raffle.
The winner of the raffle is going to get a pixel art commission of their character from me!
One of the questions I get asked the most is if I still offer commissions. This event is a good chance to get some art from me!
I’ll share more details soon! The event is going to launch in March together with the upcoming Build!
One of the phases in the fight against Kaha is a simple mob phase where she spawns in a bunch of goons you have to take care of while she recovers.
My first experiments were very rough to find the general style and movement that I want:
I decided to go with the wobbly and unstable look and this is what I've come up with:
The fight was still a bit plain looking so we decided to make a nice setpiece for the arena.
This also gave us the opportunity to highlight the use of magic crystals in kobold technology (a theme that is coming to tie together all the worlds Kincaid is going to visit as well as tie it back to the main story).
Working on the elevator left me in the mood to keep practicing some crystals and gems in pixel art. Since currency is something we wanted to introduce to the game soon anyway I thought I'd use it as an opportunity to do both at the same time!
Timing the introduction of collectible currency is a bit tricky since at first there won't really be anything to spend it on and then, given the Early Access nature of the game, shops will be introduced one at a time, we need to give players a cap amount they can farm.
This is also going to be used in the cisterns, the next area we're working on.
We'll release a new Experimental Build for Explorer-tier patrons soon! It will showcase the boss fight against Kaha as it stands with some of the new visual effects I’ve been working on. ^w^
