Re:Zero Season 2 Episode 18-20 Full Reaction

I think you guys are forgetting that it was already stated that emilias mother was human, and her father was an elf. So this whole thing about witch of envy being her mom makes no sense since witch of envy is also a half elf.

Oh My God you guys! so I was doing some research into the title card, as usual, because I'm obsesed with Re:Zero's title cards. And in EP 18 instead of using the katakana for petelgues' name it uses (平家星) Heikeboshi the classical name for the same star. Heike (平家) isn’t just a name — it evokes an entire era of glory and collapse, especially through The Tale of the Heike (平家物語), which is widely taught and referenced in Japanese culture. Heikeboshi (Betelgeuse) being a RED, fading star, reinforces the image of something once brilliant but now burning out — a perfect metaphor for a tragic character like Petelgeuse. -Chat GPT I think that's so cool, but I'm also loosing it because Pandora literally asked him "What do you see with those chrimson (RED) eyes?" Like I wonder what other references to traditional Japanese culture are made. I Swear this show is pure poetry!

Quick! While they're doing episodes out of order, let's put Haruhi on the next poll!

rakka

Thank you for the additional info! In regards to Otto specifically it does bring to question then how the books are written. Are they just the author's (Echidna's) best guess as to what's going to happen? (Just thinking out loud, don't want any answers plz 😄)

The Game Club

The author is very smart because we were definitely unaware there were 9 sins originally

The Game Club

That limitation makes sense. Even if that's not the specific limitation she has, she needs something otherwise she'd just be too OP

The Game Club

Hmm...that's very interesting

The Game Club

Emilia's backstory is one of my favorite parts of the show.

Funfact about Vanity and Melancholy: There were originally 9 sins in the catholic church. The 7 ones we know plus Vanity and Melancholy. They were later on removed by the pope since they seemed to similar to other sins. Vanity was fused with Pride and Melancholy with Sloth. So Tappei (the author) indeed played arround with the idea of the reader that there are only 7 sins just to pull the carpet from beneath our feat. One thing about the archbishops themselves. You stated that they seem to not represent their sin very well. I would like to disagree, they do represent it, they just most of the time do it in a more roundabout way. While I obviously wont talk about regulus and Ley at this point in time, I think we can talk about Geuse. On the surface he seems all but dilligent, the very opposite of sloth, he moves around, is the first to act and the most active witch cultist. But than we look at his mindset. Geuse does not think for himself, he always follows the gospel. Furthermore he does not change any of his opinion, most prominently his love. Even after he is rejected ny her he does not give up, he simply ignores it and starts blabbering on about her love til he dies. In this he is the dark mirror of what Subaru could have been in this arc taken to the extreme. Geuse therefor does not represent Sloth of the body but of the mind. Also pay attention to his ability. The hands move instead of him, he does not need to do anything physical himself. As with all the sins their authority supports them in their sinfull behaviour. You can even see it in the witches.

Luma

My guess the only way I can think Pandora powers work is that she can say something that becomes a unconscious thought to her past self at any point. For instance She says “Regulas was never here” and she heard that in her head subconsciously before she told Regulas to follow her to the forest. Thus she can be like oh never mind on even asking him to come thus rewriting the world from her previous actions. What’s more scary than opening Pandora’s box? A box that can move at its on accord.

Neo Don

My idea is that Pandora can only rewrite things that have already happened, and I believe her power might only apply to things that she’s personally seen or been in the presence of. Otherwise there’d be no reason why she couldn’t just say “you are dead” or “you never existed” and that would be way too OP. I will say though she’s probably nowhere near the power of Satella especially an unsealed Satella. But of course I may be wrong, but to me it seems that Satella exists on like a universal level, since she may or may not exist across multiple dimensions/timelines simultaneously. That’s just the vibe Ive got.

Jacob

So here we see a second case of someone forcefully taking in a witch factor without being compatible with it, which results in the holder's mind breaking. Satella got off easy compared to Geuse since she only developed a second personality. The Black Serpent was brought into the forest by Pandora, that's why in the Frozen Bond movie we see its venom; the snake was most likely frozen along with everyone else. About Reinhard's strength: he can wish for any divine protection he wants. That's why he has so many, because even having 1 is considered rare, while having 3 is like 1 in a trillion. On top of that there is the 'Mana Flow' method, which circulates the mana from atmosphere through the body, bolstering all physical abilities. To Reinhard that is a natural state. In the novels it was described something akin to breathing with your lungs full capacity. So if it's normal breathing for Reinhard (while to everyone else it's using your lungs to the fullest), that means he can still take deeper breaths. My personal interpretation of why Otto was left out of the book foretelling the future is because in known history there were 2 people with the same divine protection as Otto, they both went insane and died at a fairly young age because of it, so it would stand to reason that Otto was expected to suffer the same fate. About Puck and Fortuna: the anime makes it look as if Fortuna is Puck, but we do know a bit of Puck's origins from a sidestory, as well as that he was alive before the events of the Permafrost. Devil of Melancholy is a poor translation, should be Warlock, as in a male witch. He was most likely a demihuman, hence why the barrier was needed. Technically, archbishops are also warlocks or witches, it just a title of a witch factor holder.

Prushkevich

Great comment, I was about to comment that, but you summed up perfectly, hope they both read it.

An Od is a living being's life force you could say. It was mentioned a few times before. Translation note #1: "bishops" and "archbishops" are interchangeable in the Japanese, so it's an inconsistent translation that causes more confusion as always. So it's either just "archbishop" or "sin archbishop". Also, archbishops are not at all the "knights" to the witches. We already know that the Archbishops of the Witch Cult worship Envy and hate all the other witches, so that doesn't make any sense. Also very important to remember the Witch Cult was only created after Envy was sealed. Remembering this would save you from mistaking Hector for an archbishop for example, since Echidna is still alive then, so there was no Witch Cult at the time. Translation note #2: No, "devils" are not the counterpart of "angels" or "archbishops", in Japanese they're simply the male version of a "witch" (majo vs majin). So this is another mistranslation. Closest thing would have been "warlock" I guess. "Devil" is the worst translation choice because it overlaps with other things (such as Emilia being called "half devil" which is itself not an accurate translation) and so can be very confusing.

I'm glad you did this mistake now of all times lol. The moment I saw Otto with Roswaal I thought "did they miss an after credit scene?", but then I realized it was an entire episode lol.

mohal

The fact that "Betelgeuse" is sometimes spelled with a "p" is an interesting catch. The interesting thing that you might realize if you have some background in astronomy, is that all the archbishops we met, have names that are the names of real world stars. "Subaru" itself is the Japanese name for the "Plaides" star cluster which is also called "seven sisters". The thing with "Betelgeuse" is that in the LN it is misspeled with a "p" when written in katakana, this was stated by the author to be an intentional thing but we don't know anything other than that. The subs sometimes reflect that and sometimes don't. Here the title actually said "Alpha Orionis" which is a different name for the star "Betelgeuse".

merqry

That's right! That's where we heard it from! Thanks!

WELP... Graham and George made an oopsie this week, I'll let you enjoy the fun of watching us fall into this big silly mistake and then slowly realize we fricked things up! Thankfully it all worked out and this week you get a bit of extra reaction!... as for next week...

The Game Club

Remember Flugel's tree that was chopped down on top of the whale in season 1? As far I know that was the only mention of Flugel in the anime until now.
