The way Ram portraits Subarus return by death from her point of view is also a nice detail this episode. From all people around him, Subaru is just a random guy with the best timing imaginable. XD

2025-05-15 18:28:53 +0000 UTCEmilia just got her From Zero moment from Subaru, the same way Rem saved Subaru in Season 1. In fact alot of their scene together this episode is VERY reflective of the emotional state Subaru and Rem were in back in Season 1. Even some lines of dialogue felt very similar to the Rem and Subaru conversation on the rooftop. The same way Subaru was breaking down and saying so many things he hates about himself and didn't believe he was worth it, Rem lifted him up from his darkness that Subaru kept denying was not true.. Emilia was doing the same thing here. Subaru kept going telling her the many things he loved about her and she kept denying it. I think there's something so human about that. Re:Zero has so many characters suffering from self doubt and at times we kinda feel it too. We're along the journey with all of them, and WE feel hopeless and despair at it wondering how the hell are we gonna solve this problem at the Sanctuary and the Mansion. It never manages to surprise me how well they're able to lift up you and the characters with hope.. in a meaningful and believable way that makes you genuinely feel like we can do this and win the day.

2025-05-14 00:56:49 +0000 UTCIf you remember, every night Emilia had nightmares in the OVA, so part of her contract with Puck was sealing those parts to sort of protect her from the past that was troubling her. There were a number of conditions. Why Puck wasn't present through cour 1 will be revealed later. The anime slightly hinted on this, but from Garfiel's brief moment talking to Shima in ep 14 is supposed to show that Garfiel can't sense the miasma, it is specifically Shima and she was telling him about it. Why only her? That's a spoiler for now. Goerge: "How is Subaru strong enough to withstand this?" Well, he is actually weak enough to withstand it. The Graveyard trial repels a person without qualification based on the strength of one's gate, so with Subaru having a weak gate he could endure, even though it's painful and he said that he 'might puke' when arguing with Emilia. That's why Roswaal nearly died when he tried brute force it, his gate is a lot stronger. Btw, the trial happens at night, that's when the ruins light up, Emilia hid there during daytime. Subaru told Otto about Roswaal's plot, he couldn't tell him about RbD for obvious reasons. What Otto wrote in his note to his parents was basically thanking them for everything they done for him. Garfiel can transform without the stone, it would just require his own mana reserves rather than the stone's. Ram started bleeding out of her forehead, because she can only use her Oni state for a short period of time and then instantly gets harsh recoil. E.g. we saw Rem sent away with Crusch after the white whale battle, because she could no longer stand due to her own recoil, but she could maintain it for a while because she has a horn. Ram's bitchy personality is also likely due to her lack of horn, in the novel it was said that all her body is in constant pain because of it. Kinda like Dr. House from House M.D. i guess. A few key things that the anime doesn't mention: Emilia has the largest mana pool out of anyone we know. Why? We don't know, we also don't know if it's of any significance. She also didn't know how to use her magic because of the sealed memories and relied on Puck for that. That seal is now gone. The song played during the kiss is sung by Emilia's VA btw.
