Episode 7, "After Letting Go of the Thread"
Added 2025-08-15 01:25:45 +0000 UTCI released the thread. Not a slow easing, not a reluctant slip—just a sudden, decisive drop. The air between us seemed to relax. Her body, however, did not.
From across the plaza, I watched her continue. The same sequence of motions. The same tempo, as if the invisible metronome still clicked somewhere beyond hearing. Her face did not flicker with surprise or awareness.
I stepped back into the shadows. No reaction. I walked away, my footsteps swallowed by the night. Still, in the periphery of my sight, her form repeated the gesture again, again, again.
Somewhere deep in that body, if any “self” still lingered, it must be suspended in darkness—unable to shout, unable to resist. Or perhaps nothing remained there at all.
The street behind me narrowed. The sound of my shoes on the pavement faded into distance. When I glanced over my shoulder one last time, she was still there, framed by the vacant plaza, her movements cutting clean lines in the air like a machine left running after its operator had gone.
The thread was gone. But the dance—if it could be called that— did not know how to end.
Hey, have you heard the scary rumor about the "Dancing Woman"?
FIN.
