I love Evaporust as much as the next tool junkie but it ruined the paint on my 1940s Record woodworking vise. It turned it from a deep blue to a chalky powdery blue. Have you ever had this issue?

What do you do with the Babcock bottle full of water and fat and sulfuric acid after you are done testing? If it were me I would either move to a new home or put it somewhere out of the way while I contemplated for several months until someone accidentally brushes it and it shatters on the basement floor

Simple to use for anyone on a farm..with hugely fragile glass and concentrated sulphuric acid. Can’t go wrong with more shiny brass.

Great project and well done. It takes me back to when I worked in the dairy lab nearly 50 years ago. We used those Babcock flasks. The cheese fat test was extra special. Such a wonderful bouquet wafting through the lab as the acid denatured the protein in the cheese. Everyone would suddenly go for coffee break when I ran that test. And oh the aroma of a 'hot tank' of milk straight from the truck that took too long to get to the dairy.
