AUCTION: Antique Ratchet Wrench Patent Reproduction

Since I am getting a lot of messages about what happened to the eBay auction for this wrench, I will share the reason with you here.

For some reason, of which eBay will apparently not tell me, they have banned my account from ever using their service again.  They will not disclose why.  All I know is that they think I violated some terms and there is no recourse.

I think the fact that I created a new account and had high-value bids on an item right away, might have suggested that I was money laundering.  Who knows?! I can't appeal the decision either.

So, I have moved the auction to the comment section on this Instagram post: https://www.instagram.com/p/COtNm-TDCyd/?igshid=1c8mfhvzekdj3

Sorry for all the craziness and good luck!

I wonder if that’s a Epstein/trafficking precaution. “This cabinet is on sale for 10k. It’s a completely normal transaction”

Fyi. Gas powered money laundering is the best.

I haven't used eBay for years. The "used marketplace" was taken over by Kijiji around here. The cheap chinesium "toys" were taken over by Aliexpress, and more expensive stuff was taken over by Amazon.

Interesting!

True!

As an long time eBay Powerseller the service has gotten much worse over the last few years. Now I only sell very small volume on there. Use to regularly sell 100k a year. Although Amazon and Walmart marketplace is really not any better.

to be honest, best thing that could have happened. eBay take 9% of the final price, f them. and I don't think anyone who randomly stumbled upon that auction would have placed a bid, all potential bidders will bid without eBay involved anyways.

What a crock of shit. I'm so tired of the rampant Negative-Nancys running around with their totally indiscriminate ban-hammers. On the other hand, I haven't used ebay in several years - I think I'll just continue that trend..

Wait, this is a perfect opportunity to let Andrew put on his auctioneer hat. Live podcast, auction, it would be a blast!

The money laundering thing is possible. It's also possible that they don't like that you have patrons buying things (they disallow "outside contact"), or think that you're facilitating sales outside of eBay. Ultimately, the sad truth is that their T.O.S. ends with an effective "we can block you at any time for any reason". The real enforcement comes from people not wanting to / having the money for testing that in court.

Web services should be required to explain what violation you committed. It's annoying having no idea what you did or didn't do.
