Etching is very hard to restore or even keep. I have not come across any method that works really well.

Have you had any luck restoring etches? I have had minimal success using Brass Darkening Solution on handsaw etches.

Was that one bizarre adjustment knob on the guide bar threaded on and anchored at the other end? Maybe some kind of tensioner to control deflection of the guide bar?

That triple lever screwdriver is pretty awesome, I could see a crosshead incarnation being really useful for getting leverage on a stubborn screw when your hands are greasy and borking the screw isn’t a desired outcome. Really cool tool.

Glad you caved, haha! I am hoping others do the same, since bigger projects, like the chainsaw, will be multiple parts for sure.

They weren't cracks, just casting marks.

Why didnt you have the cracks welded back up? It looks like regular aluminum casting material that could be repaired with 4043 rod and a tig welder.
