Antique Tool Chest

I thought the tool chest would be fitting for this time of year.

Very nice Yale & Towne lock there ...

Good work, but, to me, poor design. Most of it looks great. But the raised corners on top just don't look right. Either cut the brass peices or thicken entire lid. Also the handles look like they would be hard to use because of so close to wood above. Lowering them some would have been better. Just one man's opinion. I will say good workmanship though.

i found it ,,,,, Super :-) sorry me ... forget my message :-))))))

Great vid. Sweet finished product. I have thought of doing it a few times but wussed out.

Thanks! It's just more along the lines of a style I wanted to try on this chest. I may still make more modifications, but I am after a design that I really like. Next for me would be to modify the inside for specific tools.

I love your tool videos, but this one, comparing the before and after, makes me cringe. Why didn't you replicate the top the way it was? Using triangles of wood to make up the thickness for the brackets looks bad to me, and the central decorative panel is too thick. The rest of the box looks alright but the toolmarks on the brass are not my style, I'd have polished those pieces, or used some other process like bead blasting that wouldn't leave random patterns on them. Just curious if you were going for a look and I'm missing it, or if you just didn't have thick enough wood to make the top properly, or what. I look forward to more awesome tool restorations!

Wait, is that a Stanley #1 inside it at the beginning?

Great video as always! Merry Christmas to you and your family from the Yukon!

My aunt has a big wooden chest in her attic that says “TAFT” on it. I always liked to imagine it belonged to President Taft. Who knows!

Too many.

How many screws!?!?!?

I have one, and the family lore says when my great uncle the carpenter died, the tools rattled in the chest. It's been in my mud room for thirty years, ain't heard nuthing yet.
