Something Needs to Change
Added 2019-05-01 06:25:48 +0000 UTCWith depression taking hold of me, last month certainly wasn't a productive one, nor an organized one. I need to do better, and I need to offer more. I want things to be more on my terms, that was the entire point of setting up the Patreon instead of being fully committed to commission work, but I feel like I'm flying by the seat of my pants here, constantly explaining and reexplaining and piling on lore while creating little and enjoying the creative process even less far as artwork's concerned, especially since I've no clue what story I'm trying to tell, nor how I want to tell it.
Getting organized and building habits is the hard part. I don't want to make promises and break them, but considering potential pursuits: Voting on content stands out as the most proactive pursuit in terms of patron engagement without full relinquishment of creative control. Picarto video streaming is still on the table, but I don't like the exclusivity because it limits potential traffic and opportunities to discover. I'm also thinking that, in terms of think_tank, it would behoove me to answer questions by showing instead of telling, although that's in and of itself unfair, as it offloads the burden of knowing enough to inquire in the first place onto you, the patrons. Perhaps voting on a topic to expand upon before the questions asked could set the course for developmental streams like that? Do let me know what you think, as well as your own ideas of how I can improve this relationship of sorts I'm trying to foster with you, my supporters.

I've met quite a few of my heroes over the years, and with one exception (2 if you count driving a 67 Corvette, lol.) The person behind the curtain is far cooler than the persona.

2019-05-02 00:22:28 +0000 UTCMaybe you could try doing a weekly podcast of sorts where you just talk over mic to one of your Patrons for like one hour per week? Could talk about whatever; art, fetishes, games, films, mind goblins, depression, etc. It could give you a more social outlet while also giving you another thing to commit to for a regular structure.

2019-05-01 15:04:13 +0000 UTCDon't forget, the various outlets you post, especially discord, have allowed you to become surrounded by people who enjoy your work and want to hear your stories. I can't speak for everyone, but I can speak for myself when I say I didn't join your patreon for the rewards, I joined to support you as an artist. This has become even more true as I've gotten to know you a bit. It's been a real case of "DO meet your heroes." Seems like every other time you open your mouth (or, uh, keyboard) I gain more respect for you. Do what you need to to keep creating, that's the bottom line. Also, don't feel bad about using the discord for editing/proofreading.

2019-05-01 12:11:55 +0000 UTCAye, I think what intimidates me on that front is a) formatting it, like with PDFs and the like, and b) whether or not my writing even holds up anymore, I haven't written an actual story in well over a decade, but I can't let fear of sucking stop me, right? Otherwise I'll never try, and then will never even have the opportunity to get better.

2019-05-01 06:31:17 +0000 UTCWriting is artwork, too. A page or two of lore or flash fiction accompanied with a little sketch wouldn't be amiss at all. Eventually, you'll have a light novel.
