2025-06-28 02:40:01 +0000 UTCLooking at what the shrine guy said, "you can't lead, you're neither a princess nor a concubine", then the emperor joking about taking her as an concubine, my deduction was that the emperor suggested that Jinshi the prince (either his son or brother) to take her as a concubine to let JinMao do the test. But that would mean that IF Jinshi is the brother, and him and his concubine passed the test that the emperor failed, then Jinshi is now the CHOSEN emperor, not the sitting one. Which is also why the shrine guy is telling them to be cautious, since the implications would be massive!

2025-05-17 12:59:41 +0000 UTCI think you might be getting the wrong idea about royal lineage in ancient Chinese (which this is taking heavy inspiration from). The royal bloodline doesn't have to be children. A king's direct brother could be an heir to the throne if something were to happen to the king and he doesn't have a suitable heir (either no heir at all or the prince is way too young and the brother have previous backing from the king while he is alive or the queen). I think I should add that to your thoughts that Jinshi can not be king if he was the brother
