Personally I of course miss L, but I do appreciate how much more loathing I feel towards Light after that pathetic act :D Wasn't very likable to begin with, but this just takes it to a whole new level, it feels so personal somehow. And I appreciate getting to feel that, not too common I find.

2025-03-27 10:14:04 +0000 UTCI believe this is from Re:Light which was a version after the original show. I agree that it doesn't fit, especially after it's established that light is conflicted about the death and misses L

2025-03-27 04:12:06 +0000 UTCFirst off, this isn't just an "Oh, your opinion topic". Big Joel made a video about Death Note on Youtube talking exactly about this with 800k views and overwhelmingly positive feedback. You will also see these types of discussions on almost ANY Death Note videos and shorts on Youtube (in the comments). So, it's not really just where I am coming from. There is a big mass of people who have this opinion, objectively. Death Note lost it's mass popularity because Rem was the one who killed L. Secondly, yes. Light always had multiple cheat codes. But it never has been represented as such. The show always made a deal out of showcasing that both L and Light supposedly are equals and that's just complete nonsense. Light doesn't even remotely play within the same league, he is just an insanely lucky (or unlucky if you view the Death Note as a curse) child. So, in that regard your comment actually supports what I have been saying. Light not even remotely winning through being smarts showcases that he was never all to smart to begin with. Him winning through Rem puts attention on this fact and undermines the whole show up until this point. In comparison to L he actually looks like an idiot throughout the show because he doesn't have any actual feats of intelligence. Thank you for pointing that out.👍🏻 The issue is that roughly in episode 15 Light asked Rem to kill L for him. Rem showing up was pure luck and had nothing to do with intelligence. L fought his way out of this situation through intellect. But...what if he didn't? What if Rem would've killed him right there? That would've been the most anticlimactic ending for this "fight" between the 2. But...after Light put his big plan into action about forgetting the Death Note...what has actually changed? The situation is exactly the same, in fact. I would argue that Light writing down the 13 day rule actually incriminates him *more* in comparison to before he executed his big plan. Because if the police agreed to test out the 13 day rule instantly and that Light should be treated as a prime suspect until he truly is proven innocent he would've been 100% fu**ed. They knew that at least Misa had *something* to do with the tapes sent by Kira² because they found her hair on said tapes. They also knew that the 13 day rule *could* be fake, Rem directly told them so. If the police force acted rationally there could not have been anything done by Light. It's why the police force actually should be treated as his true killers. Lastly, what you have to realize is that within this episode Light lost. That's why Rem felt the need to kill L. Because L was becoming to dangerous for Misa. And once you realize that the *WHOLE* time Light didn't have to do ANYTHING but to deliberately put Misa in danger...well, it undermines everything. This never has been a fight to begin with and especially not a fight between intelligence. Keep in mind, asking Rem to kill L is something even you and I could've easily done. To paraphrase Big Joel "It doesn't take a genius to ask a god of death to kill someone for you." For example, what have the last roughly 8 episodes with Kira³ been about? By the end of it the objective situation has been exactly the same. Light should not have achieved anything here because if the police weren't acting completely incompetently nothing would've changed. And there is no reason for them to act incompetently, because L's reasoning is as sound and logical as always. There also isn't a moral reason as to why they shouldn't try out the 13 day rule. Within Japan the death sentence exists so killing 1 criminal with a notebook instead of...Idk what they use...an electric chair(?) should not be seen as morally wrong. Just let it be done by another criminal sentenced to death and worst case scenario, 2 people die who would've died anyway. There really isn't any reason given as to why they so strongly fight off L's logical reasoning here. So in short...all of that was for nothing. We are supposed to think that this big plan Light put into action has been insanely smart but looking at it rationally it really wasn't. In fact he incriminated himself even more by writing down a fake rule which would only benefits him & Misa. Also, this isn't really about L losing. I have zero issue with L losing but it's the way they have done it which doesn't work for tons of people (myself included). It's why this episode has been rewritten 2 times officially and I myself don't even consider L dying here the canon story anymore. I consider the movies as canon. That doesn't mean that L dying is a bad thing. But his death and the circumstances surrounding it are terribly written. "There is no world where Light wins against L by simply outsmarting him." Yep...so what was all that about during the last roughly 15 episodes if it was always going to be "Rem, kill L, please." "Ok."?

2025-03-26 21:37:06 +0000 UTCJust watched it.. honestly, so happy it didn't make the cut.. it came across uncharacteristic of Kira groveling on the ground to taunt a dead person.. also the dialogue between light and Ryuk at the top of the building was done way better that in this scene..
deranged but not really
2025-03-26 19:53:40 +0000 UTCGetting ready to write down a million names is hilarious lol Now that i think of it looking at the message at the end.. it's quite sad we didn't get to know L's name

2025-03-26 19:42:45 +0000 UTCWhile I understand where you’re coming from. I genuinely don’t understand the argument of "Light cheated" the whole series is about Light having a book that kills people by simply writing their names in… that’s more of a cheat code than anything I have ever seen in anime. He got help from Ryuuk in the past as well(telling him he’s being spyed on) which saved him as well. He’s been cheating this whole time. How is this any different would be my question. There is no world where Light wins against L by simply outsmarting him. Even though I was rooting for L in high school when I first watched it. I loved that L lost. Finally a show where "the good guy doesn’t win" so refreshing to see.

2025-03-26 19:19:45 +0000 UTCWell, that was what my OG comment on episode 25 was about. Just to be clear, I am not even remotely trying to ruin it for you because I myself made clear multiple times that I don't view the second half of Death Note as bad. I also think that episode 25 is amazing and I also love it and I gave my reasonings over there. But the fact of the matter is that Rem killing L is what killed the series for many people and makes rewatches extremely underwhelming. Why was Rem in such a hurry to kill L? Well, because L was about to win so Light put in his cheat code and killed him. Light didn't need to be smart. He just needed Rem and nothing more. His big plan during the previous episodes? Well, if the police acted with logic he would've actually been in a worse spot because the 13 day rule totally incriminates him personally. That's such an underwhelming and undeserved victory, it is absolutely insane that this guy has any fans at all. Like, his feats throughout the show are mostly based on luck but he acts all smart, smug & equal to L while he doesn't even play in the same league. Keep in mind Rem feeling the need to kill L could be treated as a plothole because Misas lifespan should be stupidly enlarged due to the Shinigami who sacrificed himself for her and gave her his remaining lifespan. Now, I personally would argue against this because we don't know how much lifespan he has actually given her...but it *could* be treated as a plothole and some people actually do this. Like I said I *PERSONALLY* prefer the second half of the series (especially in the manga)...but many people don't and L being dead is part of that. His lack of presence is felt from hereon out. He is a huge part of what carried the show and killing him of so soon is why people frequently talk about how much the second part of the series sucks. That's not me making things up. The anime being bad from 25 onward is the most frequent critique. And again, I personally disagree with this critique, I think the second half of Death Note is overhated, but I can see where people are coming from. Also, yes, Death Note is popular within Japan but usually people within Japan actually enjoy the rewritten versions of Death Note more (for example, the movies which retell the same story but rewrite stuff so that it makes more sense/is logically consistent). I also don't think that sales numbers should be used as a metric for popularity because...well, Death Note is an amazing series, obviously. The sentiment I am talking about here is something people realized over the years and not instantly when the series came out. if the OG manga/anime truly was *that* popular why would they have felt the need to rewrite it 2 times within Japan? It's kinda similar to Evangelion. Everyone was dissatisfied with certain aspects of the show so they changed these aspects with the movies. Lastly, I speak Japanese myself funnily enough and I can tell that most people within Japan don't actually like the Death Note *ANIME* anymore. Death Note as a medium? Yes. But Death Note is far bigger nowadays than just the anime, especially in Japan. The top 100 lists I was talking about are public surveys which are actually pretty frequent and common in Japan depending on where you look. Many oldschool anime are still present within these lists (my favorite Steins;Gate being...well, my favorite and still present🥲), Death Note is one of the few exceptions which fell completely off. And it's because people view the first and second half like two entirely different series. For many, Death Note the anime is over with episode 25. Again, the story of Death Note has been rewritten a total of 2 times (excluding the terrible Netflix series which everyone rightfully hates). And the divergence point for all Death Note media is always episode 25. Honestly, you could even argue that both the anime and manga split up here because...well, the anime cut out a *LOT* of content and important information which contributes to how much hate the second half gets...but I don't know about that. I personally think it's still enjoyable enough and I actually like both of our big new characters and the themes going on with them.

2025-03-26 14:22:21 +0000 UTCHey thanks for your comments Light lol Sounds like you've been on a lot of forums and have heard what a lot of people on the web think about the series. I just wanted to say though, that even though I'm not done with the show, episode 25 in no way ruined it for me. These statements can be true to you and your feelings towards L, Rem, and Kira, and I totally get the argument for talking about what could have been better, or why a character did or didn't do something. We all do that when we are invested in something. But that episode is still living rent free in my head as one of the most beautiful episodes of an anime I've seen, reminding me of a few moments I also felt that way with in Cowboy Bebop for example. Every Japanese person I meet lights up with excitement when they talk about Death Note. They ALL absolutely love it and I feel like you are playing down the fact that it was a revolutionary manga and anime that sold over 30 million copies and is still one of the most popular and influential series in Japan. I never hear any of them say that it "fell off". They genuinely love it. So I just wanted to share that. What you're saying about the top 100 manga in japan, this came out a while ago, and the amount of new manga that comes out per year is huge, so that stat doesn't mean it isn't still loved by Japanese people. It just isn't as main stream as other things these days. Whats at the top of some poeples lists, is at the bottom of others lists lol just saying. I'm really enjoying it!! Shocked that L died and theres still so many episodes to go, and we'll see how I feel about the end. But that wont ruin how I feel about what happened in the series before. Im sorry that 1 episode ruined the whole series for you though.

2025-03-26 13:07:12 +0000 UTCwe have been through a lot with L his loss definitely leaves a void :P in the end considering everything we know about L I believe him and Light truly werent so different, they both believed they are the justice and both were quite selfish about trying to prevail, L himself seems to have been proud of figuring out it was Light all along and thats enough of a satisfaction, meanwhile Light enjoys his victory over L, they were two massive egos clashing :) guess L got his wish, Light took over for him :P now he is conducting a clean up :D

2025-03-26 12:42:49 +0000 UTCJust to sum up my comment from episode 25 very shortly because it is still really relevant here...L getting killed by Rem is what ruined Death Notes reputation/popularity. It's an amazing episode but Rem should not have been the one to do it and the writers agree with me because episode 25 (and onward) have been rewritten officially 2 times (not including the terrible Netflix series). It's the episode which results in Death Note harshly falling off in popularity. For example, it certainly is the reason why Death Note isn't present within top 100 anime/manga popularity lists in Japan anymore. The episode itself is amazing...but it ruined the show & manga, without question. Like, Light flexing on L in these abstract scenes is so freaking undeserved. It doesn't take a genius to ask a god of death to kill someone for you. Anyone could do that. L was cheated. And the only reason why Rem did what she did is because L was about to solve the Kira case. Or why else was she suddenly in such a hurry to throw her life away? In other words...L won. And he died because of it. That's not a theory. Rems actions prove it. Also, yes. L did know that Light was Kira the whole time (including the end). The OG mangaka confirmed this and many other things. "Are we gonna lose more characters?" Well, the police force certainly deserves it. They killed L through their irrational reaction towards L's desire to test out the 13 day rule and completely denied his logical reasoning with...feelings... They 100% certainly were L's biggest weakness and they're the biggest difference between him and the other 2 characters we see at the end of this episode. They don't surround themself with incompetence. "Pfff. L, please. Go away with your logic. We have *feelings* towards Light and we know that he is a good boy because we can *feel* that he is a good boy." 🤦♂️It's their job to be rational and logical. Imagine if they instead said "You know, L...you have a point there and you are known for being the smartest person on our planet so we should probably listen to you. Light truly would profit deeply from this 1 rule and it could be a fake rule...we should test it out as fast as possible JUST to be certain." What could Light've done in that case? Well, yes. Nothing. He would've been fu**ed. It's just another case of Light not actually being intelligent but extremely lucky instead.
