I always understood the reporter as this. Everyone in Japan just lost their number 1 Hero and they're all scared and worried about the future. He is too, and he uses his influence with a news outlet to gain access to UA just to see who is All Mights successor. He's looking for hope for the future and he found it. That's why he doesn't write a story about it or anything. He's scared and found hope that there's a bright future and a hero to take All Mights place. I also imagine considering his nature as a sly reporter type of person hes looking forward to writing a memoir/book about being the first to meet All Mights successor. Everyone wants to be that guy. Who was the first person to recognize Taylor Swifts musical talents. Who was the first person to recognize Mike Tyson was a world champion boxer. Who was the first person to recognize Magnus Carlson as a world class chess player. That guy can write the story about how he was the first to identify All Mights successor and that's pretty cool.
