I was furious at what Sakura did here. Not only was it a manipulative lie, but she said it knowing full well Hinata is head over heels for Naruto.

And that backfired like a nuke when she tried to play him

2025-03-15 20:20:51 +0000 UTCsakura had great writing. if you look at what she was told and convinced versus her feelings, it makes sense why she said that. she wanted to rid naruto of his burden and shoulder it on herself as recompense almost. fire writing imo

2025-02-15 17:30:04 +0000 UTCHear me out: Sakura’s Confession needed to happen. It is our ultimate confirmation that Naruto is carrying his own pain AND the pain of others. If he was only after Sasuke to fulfill his promise, he’d have gone home. That’s how Sakura is viewing it. She thinks that’s why he’s going to such lengths, putting himself at risk, because that’s what he promised her to do. Now, realizing just how close she was to losing another friend, she’s trying to do anything to keep him from going off the deep end. Not the best writing, I’ll admit that. However, this is another key point in Naruto’s journey. He’s defining his ninja way — no one left behind, no matter what.

2025-02-06 06:47:16 +0000 UTCHe literally said that he would give out the Tailed Beast bombs to every village so that they would keep each other in check by using fear against each other. That's literally what he told Naruto. Your interpretation of his plan is completely contradicted by the show. What is this headcanon nonsense?
Lighto San
2025-02-06 05:05:56 +0000 UTCFlexie, I think you’re confused about Nagato’s plan. He wasn’t going to give out the tailed beasts as “nukes” to countries to create fear. He was going to keep them all and use them himself to nuke anyone who stepped out of line, and create fear. So, still a nuclear deterrent, but all the power stays with him, not spread out. Each village having their own nuke as a deterrent is actually the original status quo before Akatsuki got involved.

2025-02-05 11:51:13 +0000 UTCIt's true that Naruto is the hero of the village and that he was always there for her and helped/saved her, but she never appreciated it. Like when he saved her from Gara and she thanked Sasuke afterwards and he told her that Naruto saved her and she didn't want to believe him. Anyway, those things are true, but the rest are just lies. She thought he still loved her, so she'll tell him that she loved him too and that's it. But I honestly wonder what her plan was next? If Naruto said that was great and that he loved her too, would they start dating and then get married? Or would she tell him after returning to the village "It was just fun, I just wanted to bring you back to the village."? I hate Sakura from the beginning of Naruto to the end of Shippuden and every time I rewatch Naruto, the hatred only increases.

2025-02-05 10:42:36 +0000 UTCI am not even talking about justifications or anything like that. But she objectively speaking is not playing with his feelings during that scene. That is an absolute insanely surface level take. Yes, we have different opinions. Opinions can be wrong, you know? If this is the logic by which people hate on Sakura than I know why the Sakura hate bubble is just a small but loud vocal western majority. Because it's not supported by the story but by ill will towards Sakura. & @Gyt Scroll down towards my big novel comment. It addresses what you are stating pretty directly.

2025-02-05 08:07:40 +0000 UTCHey! Patreon and Twitch are both different platforms. Twitch is where I stream/record the content and the VOD is left up a few days after to allow any subscribers over there to catch what they might have missed. Then it is deleted over there and lives over here exclusively. After I record I always break the file up because sometimes I can stream for 6hrs, and I post them to Patreon throughout the weeks while also giving space for the 7 other shows I’m watching. Patreon also limits the amount of hours used for uploading video files within every 90day period. So it’s a big balancing act for me. The schedule on both platforms is different :) and I only stream 3 shows over there currently.

2025-02-05 00:41:33 +0000 UTCWell not just him, but herself too. Saying that they both should move on and live life together. But as we saw that's not what Naruto wants, and to do it forceful like that wasn't the move, but characters can make mistakes, which Sakura realizes when she couldn't commit to cut off Sasuke. Which is the product of miscommunication especially from Naruto.

2025-02-04 22:09:49 +0000 UTCFor I can KIND OF see where Sakura is coming from as an attempt to stop Naruto from self harm and also potentially have feelings for him. I didn’t DESPISE the lie, at first, but when she turns around and goes look for Sasuke it completely ruins every chance of justification on her part of the previous scene. I still remember reading it in the manga for the first time and that was the real gut punch imo

2025-02-04 20:55:46 +0000 UTCThis is the moment that made me hate Sakura. I don't hate her because she's weak or because she doesn't like Naruto Or she is not related to anything in the world except Sasuke. But what kind of woman is she? How could she not feel that Naruto loved her and now she is playing with his feelings this way You can tell this by Naruto's facial expressions, from surprise, then joy as he listened to his words, then to sadness, then to anger, and he said, "Stop."
Sanji Sanji
2025-02-04 20:53:47 +0000 UTCI find the timing of Sakura's fake confession incredibly interesting, as it comes immediately after the revelation of Madara's plan to unite the world by trapping every human being in an infinite genjutsu, creating world peace through a lie. And isn't that exactly what Sakura tried to do to Naruto? The situations are different, but Sakura and Madara arrived to the same conclusion - the only way to save the world/their friend was to give them everything they could ever want in an endless illusion. But Naruto saw right through her 'genjutsu' right away and didn't want it. I feel like before Pain, before that chat with Madara, he might actually have bought it, but he grew too much and understood Sasuke much better and Sakura hadn't noticed. She still thought he was the dumb tryhard from when they were kids. From a few months ago, even. Her misjudgment is similar to Madara's, thinking anyone would go along with his false peace. That said, she's a teenage soldier who's finally come to terms with needing to put down an ex-comrade and is trying to save her last remaining closest comrade from going down with him in the process of still trying to save him. She ain't got that emotional experience to navigate this competently. Which might say something about Madara's plan, if you really think about it, honestly. Even if their stated goals seem just, the reality isn't so black and white. Neither truly understands what the ones they're tying to save desire. Also as an aside, I love how the Japanese word for reality, genjitsu, sounds and reads almost exactly the same as the one for Naruto's illusion techniques, genjutsu. Didn't confuse me for a decade at all, no sirree.

2025-02-04 19:55:04 +0000 UTCI remember when I first got into Naruto like decades ago, I didn't like Sakura and thought she was annoying, because she was a kid (shocker), and then when she cut her hair, my opinion changed. It wasn't a huge act, but it was huge for her. She doesn't have the big crazy powers and sob stories that Naruto and Sasuke have, and comparatively, it always made her seem more shallow, but she can't help how she grew up and the fact that she has parents who love her. I feel like a lot of people punished her for that. She's working from a completely different framework of life. When I would see what people were saying about her, it was always hard for me as a preteen to find the line between misogyny and genuine critique of Sakura. The thing I saw most often was "useless", and it's easy to appear that way when you're a tiny girl and you've got a jinchuriki on your left and a sharingan holder on your right, and kakashi is your mentor. She's #justagirl. But it's HER who keeps recognizing this. We always see her going "why can't I do anything more?", "why am I not more powerful?" and it was a cruel reality to be roped in with people that naturally powerful and made to feel like she should immediately be equivalent to them or she was worthless. So what does she do? She goes directly under Tsunade's tutelage and literally reaches sannin level HERSELF, with no extra powers to get there. She goes bottom up, and she never stops working on herself. Emotionally, it's a big mess. Being in love with what is essentially a war criminal can't be fun. But she's like 16 right now, and I remember how passionately I *loved* people back then, a feeling that is completely inaccessible to me in my late twenties. I was super impulsive, and I was intense, and if I had been put in LIFE OR DEATH situations regarding the object of that love, my God, I would have made insane decisions, I'm sure. She lies to Naruto only as much as she feels she has to in this scene. There was a lot of truth she was doling out as well. For a lie to even have a chance at being successful, it has to be based in a premise of truth, and everything she said about how much Naruto has been there etc was definitely from the heart. We see her view of Naruto shift, even back as early as OG naruto. I don't think she ever truly hated him, I think she always acted like an annoyed sister, and that's just her love language. Regardless, in this moment, only knowing half the story, she felt that if she didn't step in and try to "save" (albeit very misguidedly) one of the most important people in her life, she was going to end up losing both of them. She might have even been shouldering the thought that is Naruto were to go down, she would inadvertently kill everyone else by taking out the Akatsuki's greatest threat to success. Everything moves so fast in this arc, so while she made a gigantic mistake, she has paid for her mistake A MILLION times over and far more than anyone else in this whole series has made a mistake IN THE EYES of the fandom, and that's where I criticize black and white admonishment of her. It feels very confirmation bias of people that never gave her enough of a chance the whole time to add something else and call it a day. These same people will continue to call her useless all the way up to the final battle, and that just isn't true. Idk I could say more, but who has the time?

2025-02-04 18:50:56 +0000 UTCSo, many people do not understand what Kishimoto was going for here. And I'm going to write an extremely long comment in defense of this moment. I was honestly waiting for this moment because so many people shit on Sakura for this one and I *can* see why, but I disagree. I have actually been working on this one for a few weeks in preparation because it's so tedious to write this much at once.😅 And before anyone wants to tell me that this is way to long...I don't care. I enjoy writing about stuff I like and I like Naruto, especially Shippuden.~ I'm just gonna say it at the start: Everyone who hates on Sakura for solely this moment alone has no idea what they are talking about. Claiming stuff like "she is just playing with Narutos feelings" & similar things is an extremely immature take on this moment. Because that's not what's happening here and I don't even know how anyone can think this to be the case. This is the most human thing we see Sakura do throughout the series. The only big issue with this scene is that it's obvious set-up but the pay-off never comes. First off, from a rational perspective Sasuke by this point in the story is *completely* irredeemable. Naruto trying to save Sasuke and potentially dying while trying to do so is probably the worst thing which could happen to Sakura. So, from Sakuras perspective she is trying to keep him away from Sasuke. So that he, Naruto, can stay alive or avoid the potential suffering he must endure by killing Sasuke. For her sake, but also for everyone else Naruto must stay alive. Even if her relationship with Naruto isn't remotely romantic she still needs him, obviously. Sakura telling a lie like this to Naruto is questionable, but it's a human error she makes driven by her desire to protect Naruto from more harm. Sure, *we* know that for Naruto it's not even about the promise anymore. But Sakura doesn't know that. During this arc most characters are in the wrong because most of them are completely egotistical. Naruto is egotistical because he thinks saving Sasuke is his sole responsibility and nobody else should even try to help. He has become overly confident after defeating Pain which is set-up for future events. Sasuke is *obviously* in the wrong for many many reasons, but we will get to that. He arguably is so egotistical during this arc that his actions could be classified as highly idiotic. This is the arc which makes him unlikable to most people and it's not because he is coldhearted but because he is uncharacteristically dumb. Sakura is in the wrong because she has the same mindset as Naruto but also simultaneously lies to him in order to protect him. It's a human error and things like this actually do happen in reality. It's not bad writing just because people don't like it. The Kage are in the wrong because they don't unite their powers against Sasuke. They only do so after Tobi declared war on them. Danzo obviously is in the wrong and with him the egotistical nature of his wrongness is the most obvious out of all characters. This is the arc in which characters make tons and tons of mistakes and take illogical actions and Sakura telling Naruto a lie was her big mistake. But *somehow* everyone only sees her mistake and nobody actually looks at any of the other characters. The point of her lying to Naruto is supposed to be that she makes a human error. And her error is *far* more human in comparison to all the other characters during this arc. She tells a lie in order to protect him basically from himself. Things like this do happen in reallife. Like it or not, this is realistic writing and this *is* her acting in a human way. And her intentions are the most pure and rational ones. She wants to protect Naruto from either suffering or dying. And she knows that Sasuke is not the person she once feel in love with. Is it correct for her to lie to Naruto? No. But it's a human mistake and at the end of the day these characters are written as humans. People making mistakes but still finding forgiveness in the end is basically one of the big themes of Naruto. Just look at Nagatos storyline...or other characters which I can't mention yet. The community being unable to forgive Sakura in this moment basically showcases that these people have learned nothing from watching the show. Now, why is this scene set-up with zero pay-off? Well, similarly to Hinata declaring her love for Naruto this moment between Naruto and Sakura right here will never again come up in the story. First of it's highly likely that Kishimoto himself by this point didn't know in which direction he wanted to take the characters romantically. If Hinata was his first choice for Naruto than he would have written some pay-off for Hinatas big moment during the pain arc. And like it or not, but the lie Sakura tells Naruto does imply some romantic relationship between the 2. Why? Because she gets visibly angry as soon as Naruto denies her declaration of love and her anger obviously isn't an act. If it actually was a 100% serious lie she wouldn't have gotten actually seriously mad at Naruto for seeing through her lie. Because she would've somewhat expected that this is a potential outcome. Her reaction towards Narutos reaction is not what it should've been if she *truly* doesn't even somewhat think romantically about Naruto. Honestly, she should've been relived that he saw through it. That would've been the expected reaction. And this is why it's clear that Kishimoto for most of the series didn't know what he is going to do. This is also why "The Last" as a movie needed to exist. Because his romantic writing is terrible and that leaves a lot of moments like this one basically going nowhere. That movie solely exists because Kishimoto didn't know in which direction he wants to take the pairings and the prove for that is throughout basically the whole series. Secondly...Sasuke is a piece of dogshit. Why *is* Sakura still in love with Sasuke? Why was she in love with Sasuke in the first place? In OG Naruto both Sakura & Ino are presented as having a childish naive crush on Sasuke. We never get an explanation as to why both of them love him, so we should treat it as the show & manga present it...it's a childish crush but nothing more. Now, after the timeskip Sakura hasn't seen Sasuke in quite a long while...and we are just supposed to believe that her childish crush never went away? Even after Sasuke was just seconds away from stabbing Naruto in the back during the Tenchi Bridge arc she *still* loves him?? Even after Naruto, Shikamaru, Choji, & Neji almost died to bring Sasuke back during OG Naruto? (nobody cares about Kiba, sorry) Keep in mind that by this point she clearly showed a lot of care for Naruto. Telling Yamato that she wants to do more for Naruto. Yamato telling her in return that it's obvious that she cares a lot for him. Her lying to Naruto about her Ninetails injury. Learning medical Ninjutsu after Naruto got badly injured fighting Sasuke in OG Naruto *because* she wants to be of help to *Naruto*. Not Sasuke. *Naruto* was her driving force in trying to become stronger. But we are just supposed to think that she still loves Sasuke? I am sorry, but Sakura must be absolutely insane if that truly is the case. Now, look at what Naruto on the other hand did. He selflessly went after Sasuke giving her a promise to bring him back. By this point she knows that he did this while ignoring his own feelings for her, in other words: She knows that he prioritized her over everything else. He was always there for her in the village, supporting her to the best of his abilities and being reliable towards her. That's why when Pain destroyed the village she instinctively calls out to Naruto. And he instantly, right in that moment, shows up. Basically symbolically answering her call. Very traditional romantic writing. What was Sasuke doing in the meantime? Planning to destroy the entire village and it's population, including Sakura, her parents and so on. Afterwards Naruto defeated all 6 Pains which is an insanely impressive display of strength and should've impressed Sakura. He saved *everyone* even going so far as to revive the villagers, including Kakashi and most likely Sakuras parents. And how did he do it? By being himself. Or rather by showcasing true strength of character. And she knows that's how he did it. Because Katsuyu told her (and everyone else in the village...which is kind of awkward to think about). At this point it becomes extremely weird that Sakura still loves Sasuke and doesn't love the 1 guy who has always been there for her, supported her and even saved everything she held dear to her by showcasing insanely impressive strength in both fighting ability and character. So, the issue with Sakura lying to Naruto actually is that it's a lie. By this point her still being in blind love with Sasuke doesn't make any sense. It's almost idiotic. Don't get me wrong, she doesn't need to love Naruto just because of all the things I listed above. But her crush on Sasuke doesn't make any sense either way. There has never been any set-up for her relationship with Sasuke being anything more than a childhood crush. Contrary to that there has been quite a lot of set-up for her having a relationship with Naruto. Hence Kishimoto clearly had no idea what he was doing. And I think during this arc he went overboard in making Sasuke irredeemable and Sakura blindly love him. He went to far and I think that's the actual issue here. Not that Sakura supposedly played with Narutos feelings by lying to him. Just want to edit this in here: Sakura punching Naruto is a sign of affection typical for Shounen anime. It's similar as to how Toph in Avatar punches Zuko during one of the last episodes and tells him afterwards "that's how she shows her affection." It's supposed to be comedic and it's just a joke. Sakura is *NOT* abusive towards Naruto and anyone who thinks she is doesn't have any idea about anime, it's tropes & Japan and it's media culture. Honestly, the notion that Sakura is abusive towards Naruto because she punches him a lot is such a delusional western take, I don't even know what to say about it.

2025-02-04 16:47:53 +0000 UTCnow this was some heavy lore :D always knew TenTen was the main boss :) Tsuki no Me literally means Eye of the Moon, now that is a pretty badass plan ngl :D we finally got a proper look at all the jinchuriki and their beasts that was cool :) we have seen all the jinchuriki apart from Han the host of the 5-tails and Fu the host of the 7-tails, those must be the 2 they already got before Gaara :) Madara declaring war in style :D I am glad the show is properly demonstrating here how precarious and complicated the situation our guys are in right now really is, not afraid to get uncomfortable, wish more shows would go at least this hard and real :) Sakura is technically not lying here, she is telling the truth to Naruto, she does love him, maybe not like a partner for life but as a brother, and she does realize all the things she says, the only thing she just wishes was true and would like to push herself to that is for her to stop caring about Sasuke, that would be better for everyone involved, thats a big part of her journey right now, to prove herself whether or not she can make that step :) you could say she is trying to become a true shinobi, killing her inner feelings and going through with her duty :D also feel like a lot of people hating on Sakura here dont truly realize that she wouldnt even be here and try this if she genuinely didnt care about Naruto :P she is desperate to try and help him and chooses the option she feels might have the biggest chance of success :) the other would be to use force, put him to sleep with some potion, or just tell him the truth which could spark more conflict amongst all of them and thats the last thing they need :P good for Naruto as well showing his own maturity and awareness, this was a really dope interaction :) in the end we got another cool interaction between two beasts, nice way to get us hyped for the next time :D
