The setting places it within the modern age, and she wouldn't necessarily remain as an immortal teenager, she would still likely age enough to at least appear older. But, to be more specific, in official supplementary information, she was born in 1984 (Light was born in 1986). She was attacked after her parents were killed, so within the last year, after she started modeling. She was originally meant to die at eighteen. I'll get into some spoilers after this point. She's already finished the series by this point, so it shouldn't matter much. Misa died when she was 24, after taking the eye deal twice, resulting in her remaining life being quartered. Given that Gelus saved her when she was eighteen, and she was nineteen when she met Light, this means that Gelus only gave her around 21 years to live. She lived one year, then cut the remainder down to five in fairly quick succession. Had Rem not appeared to her, she would have only lived to see 49, so she still would have died fairly young. Actually, considering the fact that she inherited Rem's remaining lifespan as well, Gelus gave her less than 21 years, and Rem had less than five years remaining, herself. That's even before considering the added wrinkle of shinigami inheriting the remaining lifespan of those humans who they kill prematurely.

2025-01-20 18:21:15 +0000 UTCIdk if it is just me, and I never looked it up, but I would definitely pin the Japanese VA for Rem to be a woman as well 🤔 Either way, not the best way to determine a character’s gender, it’s fairly common for female voice actresses to portray male characters after all. Especially in anime!
