2025-01-11 19:07:40 +0000 UTCthis makes me wonder, in the first episode ryuk said those who use the death note can never go to heaven or hell for eternity, what if gelus act actually saved him from from that eternity in the shinigami realm. the common trait we see from the shinigami is the lack of empathy, i think instead of gelus being punished he was actually redeemed. i also thought it was funny the weird noises he made when crumbling almost like he nutted but maybe it was euphoria he felt from finally passing on or something.

2025-01-11 18:15:29 +0000 UTCFlexie, you seem to have understood the rule on killing a Shinigami, but just to be sure: Rem was sort of being poetic with the "fall in love with a human" bit. Technically Gelus died due to extending human life instead of merely taking it. It's understandable that Rem sees it this way however, as in a sense it's true; there is no reason to believe that a Shinigami would ever sacrifice their immortal life to save a human unless the Shinigami was in love with that human.

2025-01-11 08:27:41 +0000 UTCI was going to comment this morning, but because I was curious what other people would say but I always thought Rem was a female, it's interesting you pictured them as male (in hindsight it's probably bc its clearly a woman VA in the Dub)

2025-01-11 02:19:38 +0000 UTCFirst of all, I am not saying this is a fact which is why it's a footnote in my comment. I made pretty clear that people *claim* it is significant but the author wasn't actually deliberate about this one, so who knows? Even though I would say it is highly likely intentional. Either way it is a significant scene because of how many people accepted the theory about it as the truth. If you are interested in this topic the video "How L always knew light was Kira. (Death note theory)" on Youtube showcases this. 5.1 million views, not even a minute long, easy to watch. My comment probably took longer to read.π The video starts with the words: "In just episode 10 of Death Note, L already figured out Light is Kira after Light slips up as L planned, which most people missed." Other than that, you should form your own opinion about the theory. It *is* pretty commonly accepted though. And just to be clear, the first part of my OG comment is stuff that was confirmed by the OG mangaka. For example, he said stuff like (using my own phrasing) "When L talks about % numbers he usually lies. The actual numbers in his mind are always higher, at least 90%."

2025-01-10 23:11:06 +0000 UTCYeah, I knew they never referred to Rem using gendered pronouns, but I always kind just assumed that was the show was implying (at least in my head cannon lol). But yeah, it definitely makes more sense for shinigami to be genderless.

2025-01-10 21:44:01 +0000 UTCOfficially Rem does not have a defined gender. People have a confusion about this because in English they use the pronoun "she" but in Japanese there are no gendered pronouns like that and the only way to confirm the gender would be someone saying directly η· (male) or ε₯³ (female) which is never done.

2025-01-10 20:39:32 +0000 UTCWell, I've read the manga in Japanese and I'm fairly certain that Rem's gender is never clearly defined (that's something that I did look into it in the past because I was curious as well). Now, of course I'm not a native speaker, but what I could gather is that the Shinigami's concept of gender is different from that of humans, maybe they don't even have that concept. Specifically, Rem's gender is never clearly defined in the manga.

2025-01-10 20:37:36 +0000 UTCNo rem stated when she/he told Misa that gelus remaining time span got transfered to the woman I said that we DONT KNOW how long that time span is but assuming its 1000 years it would mean misa has a loooong life even after the shinigami eyes Deal :) But we dont know how long it was

2025-01-10 17:28:22 +0000 UTCGelus's death sounds were definitely kinda weird, i feel like the VA had way too much fun doing that scene lol Also btw I'm not sure if shinigamis even have genders (probably not) but Rem is usually referred to as "she", which I think fits her character a lot (cuz of her character design, and also her VA is female)
Aki Himura
2025-01-10 16:08:21 +0000 UTCbtw Gelus remaining life span which we dont know how much he had left up to that point got added to misa`s lifespan which means she could have lifed for like 1000 years after gelus died, then she halfed her remaining life span after she got the death note meaning it would be 500 in that case. Just saying we dont know the lifespan she got from gelus but it is potentially a ducking lot :DD

2025-01-10 15:07:06 +0000 UTCas they say keep your friends close but your enemies closer :D its quite fun having these 2 massive egos next to each other :) Misa is giving Light a proper headache xD what a fascinating story about her and Gelus, his name is quite fitting I guess as well :)

2025-01-10 13:58:47 +0000 UTCNow, I just want to be clear that this comment is not(!) a spoiler! Just talking about stuff many people do not notice or rather easily miss so far. You know, some of the stuff that gets lost in the subtext for many viewers. At this point in the story L is almost 100% certain that Light is Kira. He just needs to find evidence of it which is why he wants to have him close-by. The hints for this are all laid out throughout the series so far. I'm not going to go into superhigh detail about it because people should figure most of this stuff out for themself (there are hour long videos on Youtube about this stuff & the manga is clearer about it). But the biggest moment which basically convinced L that Light is Kira happened when Light sat at the dinner table and told L through the camera that he *is* Kira. Light was really open about it but only in a way L would understand and he was deliberately doing this. There isn't even really a debate about this. At that moment Kira directly talked to L which is why L knows from that moment onward that Light is Kira. This is also why L afterwards said that Light is very smart. Lights father reacted very confused about that statement because he totally missed what was going on between the 2. L also got really excited during that scene because he realized that his opponent is gonna provide him with a challenge and L certainly likes a challenge. That has basically been established since his first appearance or rather the first mention of his existence. It's almost the first thing we learn about him. It's also why L during this episode wants Light to play the real Kira. It's a taunt, and if you look at Lights reaction it works wonders.π The funniest thing about L is that he obviously is super weird. But he is also highly aware of him being super weird which makes him a masterful manipulator. This show isn't just about smarts, but also about psychological manipulation. Heck, I would even argue it's *mainly* about the psychological stuff once you actually realize the game both L and Light are playing. L already had a psychological profile of Kira, we have seen that even before they made contact with each other. Light fits that profile *perfectly*. It's also why L figured out that Kira 2 is a separate Kira. Because Kira 2 *doesn't* fit the psychological profile. L is really observant about this stuff which is why he already was on the Kira case even before the police realized that something was going on. The scene in which both L and Light visit his father in the hospital and they talk to each other about the FBI agents is also *really* important. Many claim that during this scene L 100% certainly figured out that Light is Kira due to him showcasing knowledge which he shouldn't have or rather making assumptions that seem very abnormal. And all this stuff I am talking about here is basically completely confirmed by the OG mangaka who wrote the story. This stuff is just so easy to miss because L is an extremely subtle character, but it certainly *is* there. Though I do have to admit, it is more obvious in the manga and the anime kinda butchered some of this stuff a bit. But at that point it's just nitpicking. Lastly, 1 thing which should be noted about this whole show...Light isn't just smart but also very lucky in many cases, which is quite ironic considering Ryuks remark about people who were in possession of the Death Note before.
