I saw DN for the first time so long ago, and have watched it so many times since, that I don't even remember my initial reactions to these revelations and plot twists, but I'm thoroughly enjoying watching your experience and thoughts on each episode. Excellent job, carry on!

He probably just peeked down on Ryuk from the shinigami realm. It's just bad timing that that throwaway scene happens right before another shinigami is actually introduced.

Either way, these were just thought experiments considering all the stuff we know so far. Because I really don't want to go into spoiler territory.

2025-01-06 23:48:42 +0000 UTCFrom my understanding and iirc. The price is half of the remaining lifespan. If you destine to live until 70 (natural death) and now you are 20. then your remaining life span is 50 years. So Ryuk will take 25 years, and you will have 25 years left instead of 50.

2025-01-06 16:48:11 +0000 UTC1 thing I always found a bit strange about the introduction of Misa is how Light is not worried at all at this turn of events. At least not during this episode obviously. From all he knows this second Kira could be a Kira who deliberately tries to lure him out in order to kill him and be the *only* Kira. I also think the Shinigami eyes deal is quite interesting because that deal kind of changes reality. Let's assume (no spoilers here, just thought examples) that Light would normally die a natural death at the age of 60. But if he takes the Shinigami eyes his death would instead come at 30. So, how would that work? Would he just get a heart attack once he turns 30? Or did reality shift in a certain way so that certain events lead to him dying an unnatural death at 30? Or is it just that Ryuk writes his name down at 30 instead of 60? Because that's what he told Light during the first episodes. In that regard taking the deal is kind of an execution of the Death Note powers on steroids. Either way, we already know that Misa accepted the deal and that she will die young because of it. How young exactly is unclear but her fate is basically sealed already which is why Light didn't want to take the Shinigami eyes. Lastly, like I mentioned previously Ryuk told Light already during the first episodes that he one day will write Lights name in his own notebook. It's basically one of the rules he has to follow. Would that count as an unnatural death? Would the shinigami eyes deal play into this? Again, no spoilers here. Just hypothetical questions about the stuff we have already learned about.
