2025-10-24 17:27:34 +0000 UTCSo a comment on the work that VA’s do for English dubs nowadays, the actor is given recordings of the original Japanese so that they can match their tamber and accent so they get as close to the original, dubbing agencies will actually look for VA’s who’s work closely matches to begin with before doing any auditions

Dragonball, Death Note, Cowboys Bebop just go name a few. Also want to mention the dub for Ichigo in Bleach is far superior imo

2024-12-30 03:28:59 +0000 UTCI was confused when you said your experience with dub was that actors felt like they were just reading lines, not actually acting, but once you clarified that you were referring to OG Naruto and Bleach, it totally made sense. Early anime was 100% like that, but I haven’t felt that way about anything produced nowadays. There’s a lot more love and heart in it from English actors now.

2024-12-23 13:07:13 +0000 UTCI don't quite agree that dubs in any form can't surpass their original, but it IS exceedingly rare. For me at least, I could never watch Fullmetal Alchemist, Ghost in the Shell, or Dragon Ball in their original forms, as their English voices are just them for me now. But, it's definitely a cultural thing, I certainly don't disparage anyone for how they feel. I'm just happy that, no matter the language, there's such a demand for translating anime to reach folks across the globe.

Before that I watched Pokémon dubbed cause I was a child and thats what was being fed to me. I loved Bleach so much that I found the episodes that were airing in Japan when I was older, on a Japanese website and watched the entire show that way and since then I never went back to dub. Simple ☺️ it’s an esthetic preference and if it’s a Japanese anime I want to watch it in the original language 💞 I’ve always loved the Japanese language and my husband is Japanese - I hope this helps you understand where I’m coming from as a reactor.

Its clearly just because they know the audience wants the sub, and not your personal love of Japanese voice actors. Reactors be scared lol

2024-12-20 17:36:41 +0000 UTCIm a majority sub watcher but i just have to disagree with the sentiment that just because something is sub that it is automatically better when things like voice casting, localization are extremely important to how a story comes across. FMAB is a prime example the sub is straight up just an average sub and honestly lacking in a lot of aspects, the casting and translation of the dub is just better.
