MOVIE REACTION: Your Name (EARLY UNCUT ACCESS)

This was a beautiful experience.
I'm so glad I finally experienced this masterpiece. I had a good day of crying today - both with my first viewing, and also again while I prepped this for posting. But also, immediately going back and seeing how the movie started and rewatching it was very rewarding.

MOVIE REACTION: Your Name (EARLY UNCUT ACCESS)

Comments

Okudera senpai and Tsukasa got married!💍🤍💒

miho

its okay i cried like a baby too

Jacob Z Mulan

One of the ways you’re able to tell who’s in which body, is that when Taki is Mitsuha he does her hair in just a ponytail, not the fancy braid that she normally does, I’m aware that this is an older video post, but it’s still a way to remember

Faen_Galan

mitsuha teacher is the mc of another movie called "the garden of words" from the same creator makoto shinkai 🙂 it was the most visually pleasing anime film ive ever watched

makima

I cried more rewatching this movie with you. It hit me harder than when I watched it the first time years ago. Thank you for your wonderful reaction. Please react to the movie Ne Zha 2019 - free on YT and Peacock. Its sequel Ne Zha 2 is the highest grossing animated film of all time for a reason. I'm 100% sure you'll love it!!!

Meanne Morales

This movie is by far one of my most favorites, Seems like it is gonna be a fun Freaky Friday scenario, but then the REAL twist happens....

Hellguin

Amazing movie and reaction flexie!

David Poa

WAIT REALLY!? ive seen this movie when it came out (took a chance and never regretted it) and ive never heard of it!? HOW!?

David Poa

There is a movie that shows them grown called Weathering with You. Its only for a few minutes.

IGTrumpy

so glad you did this movie, i watched it closer to when it first came out and it hits so hard. its such a beautiful experience and im glad to have come back and watched it again alongside you.

Dan Anderson

This is fantastic, I didn't even know you reacted to this. I joined for another show, lol. Love this movie so much, it's still so effective even after seeing it so many times, but it was your fantastic reaction that made it all so good. Those places are real in the movie. If anyone is alone and over there they should stand on that bridge and look longingly at their palm lol... to recreate the scene 😆 I can laugh now but I was emotional again during watching this reaction. I noticed something I didn't before... but in that "twilight" scene when worlds overlap... on that mountain we see two craters and where the town Itomori used to be. But in another moment as they found each other there was only one crater. No one would notice this in the background because you'd be laser focused on the two of them finally meeting. You can tell which time it was by how many craters are down below. Two in the future, one in the past. So folks, this story is a wakeup call to those walking past each other in everyday lives and ignoring what could be the red ribbon of fate to your destiny. Also the empty palm could represent each of us lost and always looking down at our smartphones... oblivious to the real world yet yearning for it unknowingly. Just two possible messages from the movie 🙂

Mannygogou

This movie is definitely a banger, I don’t cry very often to shows or movies but this got me.

Daaylen Watson

This movie dude... its soooo good. X3

Roy Meulblok

Josee the tiger and the fish definitely

Jaden Acevedo

Josee the tiger and the fish and a silent voice are a must

Jaden Acevedo

If you liked this I recommend '5cm per second" or for something more wholesome 'summer wars"

Kuot Thiik

For anyone who doesn't know, Makoto Shinkai makes sure, throughout the movie, to drive home the point that it's essentially impossible to remember dreams - especially after a while. It makes me think about my personal experience after having woken up with such vivid and seemingly unforgettable dreams, but as minutes pass by it feels almost impossible to recall what I thought seconds ago I would never forget - even dreams that I wake up in tears from, but can’t seem to remember why. Taki and Mitsuha would probably never even know any of what they were going through was happening to them if it weren't for the messages they left each other. Their experience could've ended up like Mitsuha's mother and grandmother. Eventually, Taki and Mitsuha lose their memories of each other after their twilight meeting because in order for Taki to enter the shrine at the center of the crater "the underworld" and undo the timelines to save Mitsuha and her village he was required to leave something of himself behind. The grandmother tells Taki "In exchange for returning to THIS world, you must leave behind what is most important to you." (That's why Taki says when referring to the sake "This is her sister's, and this was mine") The most precious thing he left behind was the memories that he had of Mitsuha. So when "kataware-doki" ended and Taki and Mitsuha were sent back to their timelines, their memories of each other immediately faded, and time and fate were undone to make a new one. A lot of people get mad at the fact that Taki didn't leave his name on her palm and think that he's stupid for leaving "I love you" on Mitsuha's hand instead but are ignorant to the cultural relevance of it - I assume it would this movie would hit harder to a Japanese audience since they understand the meaning of these metaphors in a more visceral way. In Japanese folklore, the Moon god protects all messages of love and is not bound by the laws of fate or time. Taki probably knew that if he wrote his name, it would've gotten erased (like the messages to him from Mitsuha on his phone) - instead he decided to write her “I love you” since he knew that his message would be safe, probably hoping that it would be powerful enough to fuel them to find each other at some point in the future. i.e., Mitsuha always looking at her hands remembering the message of "I love you” and the inner dialogue the say in the end of the movie about them always searching for “someone, something” I love the subtlety of how the braided chord more than just represents a simple "red string of fate" trope by it being the physical anchor that guides them to one another. The thread was created by Mitsuha and given to Taki (at the train station, physically connecting them) -> back into Mitsuha's hands on the mountain (in a way reconnecting them and completing its journey “coming full circle” - which falls in line with a lot of the themes the grandma talks about to Taki). The thing that stands out the most, to Taki, in a sea of people was the glimpse of the red threaded braid as she walked in the train station - the very first place he ever saw her and knew nothing about to 5 years in the future not knowing her, but was certain she was the one that he was searching for. “The braided cords that they make represent the flow of time itself. They converge and take shape. They twist, tangle, sometimes unravel, break, and connect again.” This is such a beautiful movie. Such poetry. I love how it doesn't try to give you too much with the ending and allows the viewer to use their imagination.

Kruxx

I have watched this movie probably 50 times and I have never made it through without crying. This film is so dense with meaning, it takes a few watches to catch most of what is going on, and the significance of minor details. I'm so glad that you were able to experience this film so strongly, it is such a beautiful story

Tennomusha

Radwimps, the band that did the soundtrack for the movie, also sang all the songs in english for the dub! Thought that was a cool detail when I first watched the film. A Silent Voice is the obvious next choice, but I'd like to throw in two suggestions that moved me. A short series called AnoHana, and the film In This Corner of the World.

Jacob Pettis

you have to watch The Anthem of the Heart

peter günter

Beautiful movie, beautiful reaction (I didn't cry - this time). I do suggest "A Silent Voice" next. Red Ribbon of Fate - in Japan it symbolizes people who are in love and fate wants them to be together. (Simplified)

Jan Negrey

A Silent Voice is my favorite anime movie perhaps ever. This one is still wayyy up there for me. Jose The Tiger and The Fish is also wonderful. Any of those I'd so recommend! It's a miracle you werent spoiled on this one. It truly is such an experience, I'm glad.

Camvrcz

A Silent Voice was really good too, it's definitely a tear jerker, but still a great movie

Francis Lau

YES!

Milosz Skowronski

Josee the tiger and the fish :)

Lex

Gotcha, so this is the first 'real' anime movie you've reacted to, the reset are just a bunch of extensions of their own shows. (and all just a bunch of Shonen action stuff)

wiski

This movie destroys me every time

IGoBySparky

NEED the violet evergarden reaction so bad

Eduardo Gallegos

this is a favorite so i clicked fast on this one, thank you

sune jeppesson

Wait until you watch violet evergarden

Poolish10

Oh, I just remembered. There is a movie that that reminds me of Your Name called The Lake House that has Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock in it. These two movies are quite similar in some ways and different but still a good movie. If I remember right, the Lake House's pacing felt a little more slower and melancholic compared to Your Name.

Duath Nar

I was not expecting this reaction at all! This is such a beautiful movie! I'm excited to see the reaction!

ClutchJIGSAW

I saw this in the theater on a whim. And had a major boo-hoo on the hand message & the final train scene. Years later... I had another boo-hoo session with you! Love this movie. And like everyone else mentioned, check out, "A Silent Voice" as well.

Ledel Johnson

Bro it's been years since I watched this movie so i forgot a few things. But, that "I love you" on her hand hit me like an isekai truck, man...😭

GardeninTool

The Movie just started and i already have tears in my eyes. That movie messed me up. I only watched it 8 times so far. It was my favorite movie for a long time, until Koe no Katachi (A Silent Voice/The Shape of Voice) took the Number 1 Spot.

Lynn

Both Mitsuha and Taki make cameo appearance in Weathering With You

Atsu

is anyone else wondering if arcane has popped up in flexie's feed yet?

spectral.mozzarella

One of my favorite movies! Loved your reaction. I cried again along with you. A Silent Voice and I Want To Eat Your Pancreas are both phenomenal as well. You should also watch Weathering With You and Suzume.

Jon Hutchins

Man the scene when she looks what he wrote on her hand messed me up. You know, no one ever warned me when I started watching anime how much it would make me cry!

FearTheBub

A silent Voice is another beautiful piece!

Bray Egan

Loved you'r reaction like always. Thank you for sharing these emotions with us. You should watch Suzume, It's a movie by the same author as Your Name.

Mohammed Bouaboud

So if you didn't know too much about the idea of the braided cords and how they used it with the specific red color it goes into the Red String Theory: "also known as the red thread of fate, is an East Asian folklore about two people who are destined to be together and are connected by an invisible red string." It is similar to the Western concept of a twinflame or destined partner. The legend of it says that the gods tie the red string around the fingers of people who are destined together, where it can stretch and bend but never break and I think it's amazing how they perfectly tie that concept into this gorgeous movie.

SemiSeriousNerd

love the reaction, flexie!! Since you watch" your name" might as well check out some other films by Makato Shinkai too. "5 centimeters per second" & "the garden of words", shorter but the quality and stories are amazing. Also maybe consider "Lonely Castle in the Mirror" personally haven't watch it but love the theme song hahaha, also heard it a great one too. will love to watch more movies together

LawLaw

I cried along with you so much in this movie <3 one of my favourites. i'm so looking forward to seeing more of this different kind of content! If i may, i really recommend Madoka Magica, it was considered to be one of the best anime of the ealry 2010s and it is absolutely beautiful and heartwrenching

Laura Bea

A Silent Voice is a true classic that deals with a topic that doesn't get the attention it deserves. Weathering with You, also great. Hoping to see both here :)

Milosz Skowronski

You should watch 5 centimeter per second, Weathering with you and Suzume.

Jesus Ascencio

Great reaction! If you want another beautifuly animated tear jerker movie.Ride your wave is amazing

The KnightGundam

HIGHLYYYY recommend the series “86” and “Orange”! If you loved this movie also I’d recommend “Josee, the Tiger and the Fish”! As always love the reaction🫰🏽

LillWalker

You should would the Anime movie "A Silent Voice", such a good anime and it will most likely make you cry as well

Hensonnn

Victor Vrignaud

Before I even start: AAAAAAAAA! So glad you're watching this! So happy for you to be open to new experiences and new types of anime, including movies. You won't regret straying off the beaten path like that, I promise :) Alright, let's dive in :D After watching: It was everything I hoped for and more. Thank you. That waterproof mascara was a good call XD And yes, I cry every time too :) This movie is a Makoto Shinkai masterpiece. Glad you enjoyed it :)

Milosz Skowronski

I love this so muuuch! I would love you to make movie reactions a regular thing! Even if its only every 3~4 weeks.

Leo

Great reaction! Welcome to the amazing world of stories created by Makoto Shinkai. 😊

Arushxm

Just since you're in Japan now... There are several locations in the movie that are real places, including the stairs at the end of the movie!! https://mipon.org/your-name-pilgrimage/ I'm definitely finding them and taking a picture there next time I'm in Japan.

Bryant Nieto

The ninja's really infiltrated all of our rooms and started cutting onions!

Seal Oppa

Ahh, I remember the first time I let this movie hurt me too... lol! Still stings pretty good.

Xu Yang

Heart warming info for you Flexie. Makoto Shinkai confirmed in an interview that Taki and Mitsuha had regained their memories after their final encounter. It is really heartwarming knowing that they remembered everything 😢. Thank you for the amazing reaction as always.

Ammar Ghamdi

For the next movie either A silent Voice or Weathering with You. Please <3

RiShinMarco

Makoto Shinkai is a great movie director. All his movies are at the very least good - great. And all his movies are in the same world. With background character appearances in the movie from one of his previous directed movies. So if you watched all his amazing work someday. It is really cool to find all those little "easter eggs".

RiShinMarco

During the beginning of the movie when they are standing together, he is growing and she is not. Only thing really changes is her hair. My daughter notice that when we watched it the first time.

BoyBovine

For me personally Your Name, A Silent Voice and I want to eat your pancreas are the holy trinity of (anime) movies. They effected me the most and left lasting a mark on me. Also your reaction to Your Name is one of the best there is. It trully felt like looking into a mirror and seeing myself weep through the second half when I first watched this movie. Thank you!

Teddy1895

So happy that we are getting movie reactions now! Excited for you to see the beauty of these movies. It's a bit of a different movie, but would also recommend Belle. It's a modern anime take on beauty and beast. Has some amazing music.

Seal Oppa

I can never get through this movie without tears. I’ve lost track of how many times I watched it either on my own or via a reaction, and I can handle most of it, but the moment Mitsuha sees what Taki wrote…that’s me bawling. And then the ending kicks me in the heart again.

PotterBrony

I would highly recommend "A Silent Voice" if you liked "Your Name".

Drift3r

AAAAA im so glad you watched this, can't wait to tune into your reaction - this one and Weathering With You (by the same director and studio) are probably my all time favorite movies

Jackson

My wish came true ✨✨✨

Sneh

Great, im waiting for tenki no ko next 😄

Vieri Candhya

You love all Studio Ghibli movies? I wouldn't go as far to say I love them all. They are all great but I certainly don't love Grave of the Fireflies since I can't watch it anymore.

RiShinMarco

Weathering with You or silent voice

Richard Rear

Just gonna hit me with that in the middle of a workday. Jokes on work I work from home.

lasher840

Not a movie but a couple shows I'd like to see you react to are Your Lie in April and Bocchi the Rock. They're both just one-season shows so you could fit them in between longer series.

James Bell

they’re both so beautiful.

1nonlynox

Please no :'(

Kyriios

oh damn, wish i’d caught the stream for this but so excited!! such a great movie.

Cornelius Ukena

And Mitsuha and Taki will be in anime "Weathering with you". XD

Drrrr

Makato Shinkai is the author of "Your name". And you should watch his other anime movie is called "Weathering with you" and "The garden of words".

Drrrr

Now I have to recommend Look Back, the best anime movie this year. It is adapted from a one-shot manga by Chainsaw Man's author Tatsuki Fujimoto. You would definitely enjoy it

Tsunemori Kiriko

An all-time favorite. I love how if you go into this not knowing anything about it, the modern setting can fool you into thinking it's just going to be a slice of life when it's really a science fiction fantasy love story. So glad you got to watch and share your reaction with us! Thank you so much!

James Bell

If you watched this, you have to watch a silent voice next.

TheKingsClone

letsgooooo I love this movie

Satooh R

Been a while since I've clicked on a notification this fast. This is hands down one of my favorite movies ever

PhoenixRising

Tysm for the upload, I wasn’t expecting this today!!Can’t wait to watch this movie again💙🩷
