Frieren Beyond Journey's End Ep10 (Early Uncut Access)

Episode 10 | A Powerful Mage

Frieren Beyond Journey's End Ep10 (Early Uncut Access)

I love how simple the explanation was for why concealing mana was such a big deal by comparing it to wealth and status. I pick up what is being put down and it makes me feel smart.

under Flamme's tutelage, Frieren downgrades her "love of magic", to "i like it somewhat". Probably because all she learned from Flamme is magic for revenge; and not magic to brew a warm cup of tea let's say

Anal Farmer1

So Himmel got angry, because she blasted away Aura's "undead army" without regard that those used to be human beings. So Frieren didn't attack Demons "head on", because even though it seemed like she was attacking "head on", she was always hiding her mana. So it was "head on" only on surface, but in reality it was "cowardly" as they put it in the show (not my opinion, but I get it given Japanese culture).

Jan Negrey

Yes and no. If she were known than it's possible that Demons would realize that couple hundred year old elf mage might be hiding her mana. Or at least they would have be on guard more, decreasing her chances to deceive them by "pretending" to be "only" seasoned mage.

Jan Negrey

Well - groups of people more than 1 are always susceptible to corruption. And there is always potential of corruption entering into equation. And Omar L's comment is bit difficult to read ;) That being said there are multiple lessons here.

Jan Negrey

I'm a little late to comment but I think the main reason Flamme told Frieren to lay low and not make a name for herself was because the Demon King ordered the extermination of all the elves. Probably out of fear of their long lifespans that they could use to train and become stronger than him eventually. So if the demon king knew of frieren before she was strong enough he would have sent assassins.

Danny

Not all hierarchies, just the corrupt ones. You should be more skeptical about your skepticism.

The lesson taught to Frieren regarding humans/demons that attain power/wealth, and let their egos direct their actions by putting it on full display, is not only painfully obvious, in my personal life with friends, but in politics, and EVERY HEIRARCHY of every single branch in this world. Work, politics, relationships, religion, culture, economics, even in something as simple as middle school cliques. Humans are weak, and the weaker we are, the more we boastfully/ostentatiously/deceivingly try to display the opposite to ourselves and to the public. The more we double down. The lazier we get, and the more we believe the lies we receive from those of the same cloth, or lies that we tell ourselves and others that bolster our own egos, greed, lust, comfort, and sense of belonging and feeling of being "right/good," over being morally responsible by committing to due diligence. We consistently choose ourselves, pride, endorphins, or public image OVER non-hypocritical, cowardly, lazy, biased, corrupt actions.

What i love about this is that we KNOW Frieren will win, I mean we are less that halfway through the first season of a show called "Frieren" so the question isn't will Frieren lose here it's are they gonna give us a drawn out battle where hey maybe it's action packed but really there are no stakes OR will they spend the episode giving us lore and details about the world and the past that let us know exactly WHY Frieren will win. Personally i prefer this approach!

What?

Thanks for the double drop! Yeah, the way the anime expertly weaves the storytelling of flashbacks into the current happenings is brilliant. Generally anime flashbacks are kinda like BAM HI, even at odd moments like in-between fights. No finesse haha. Frieren does it so well and the story as a whole flows beautifully for it. Also, get wrecked Aura lol RIP to Flamme's VA :(

Melley Cat

Alright, I made it from youtube to your patreon and now I am caught up again and have to wait :D

Wex

stop asking, im not alright!

Atsuko Tanaka was a legend in the industry with a career spanning all the way back to the 80s. She'll be missed.

73Danger

Rest in peace Flamme voice actor 😭

I dont even think Himmel wanted to be the face of the party either. All we know is that he wanted to be a hero and he inspired his companions to the point of them kinda making him the "face" or "leader" of the group. In the flash back we dont just get moments with Himmel and Frieren we also get moments with Himmel relaying wisdom to his other party members. That being said the Hero party was scary strong- In this last episode they hinted that Heiters mana was insanely vast- They also showed, again, how scary powerful Eisen was in his prime. All these scary people and yet Himmels power is the only one that caused fear in the demons, i think it showed that he had something truly special.

Richie Moreno

Just to add: Friren earned the title of "The Slayer" by destroying the most number of demons in history, not through her 1000+ year life. She performed that feat in the mere 10 year journey with Himmel, Heiter and Eisen. Thats how much of a menace to demonkind she was.

Ashalesth

You're not the only one that tears up watching this show, it's a beautiful show. The storytelling with some action is very well done, it keeps getting better with every episode. Epic double drop, agree. there are a few episode strings in this season that go so well back to back. You also understand the world so well.

Justin Ankney

You hit the nail on the head, Frieren never tired to make a name for herself on the hero's quest because the demon king wasn't defeated yet. Himmel was the hero of the story if they made a anime of the hero's quest Himmel would have been the MC.

Holliday

The new WoW expansion has been pretty sick so far. It's a good time to get back into it if you've played before.

PearseNation

Could you imagine how hard it would be to maintain a pair of earrings for 1000+ years? Gotta remember all the battles she's been through, but she still kept the earrings from her master safe.

Seal Oppa

One of the cool things about what Friren does here is if you go back to the beginning of episode 9 when she first shows up to challenge Aura she starts off by pumping Aura up and talking about how powerful demon magic is and how human magic can never hope to compete. She then uses a technique that takes a lot of mana, dispelling, mostly because of Himmel but also because it lulls Aura in to thinking she is spending a good portion of her mana when she really isn't. The con began as soon as she showed up and you can even say it reached back to the first time they fought where Frieren didn't reveal her actual mana.

Cronshaw

Also because the others didn't try to be the face of the party. Frieren, especially, stuck to herself and didn't engage with others as frequently as the others in the party

Alex

You asked why Himmel is the face of the party and not Frieren. I Think its simply because of the deeds Himmel would do. Also, Himmel was powerful and everyone was scared of him. The only reason Aurora came out of hiding after 80 years or whatever was because she found out Himmel had passed so she thought it was safe to try and do evil things again. It was emphasized the last few episodes but you might have not noticed that detail.

Richie Moreno

You are doing great understanding everything! I was gonna say how perfectly the flashbacks and scenes were weaved together but you already mentioned it! My heart warms up every episode!

Plushxi

Thank you for this epic double drop!!

Russell Gambardella

idk man "kill yourself" goes pretty hard lol

jacob

Thank god you uploaded these back to back lol

Alex Dyn

I'm he not him, because I could never be Himmel. Man is a legend.

Harrison Kuffner

jacob

Bambi

I love the way you get the whole storytelling thing that makes this ep a masterpiece. I've been waiting for this reaction and yours didn't disappoint.

Nice, My favorite quotable….

Daaylen Watson

Frieren telling Aura to kys is the coldest line I’ve ever heard in anime...

Satooh R

Maybe that explains why is Frieren always so sleepy/sleeps so long - Controlling her Mana

Speziald

FYI Himmel didnt scolded Frieren on EP 9 bc of her face up battling Demons, but bc she killed all of auras controlled "minions" without any respect for the fallen soldiers behind the armor. So she dispelled the armor so they could rest in peace. And no, controlling her mana doesnt belong to their staff and stuff. them pouring off mana is a natural state like breathing and controlling mana like this is like breathe only the exact amount of air that ud need to live. mitght not be the best comparison, sorry :D

Helvegen

"Just as demons deceive humankind with words, you must use your mana to deceive demons." There are very few lines in anime, imo, that can even come close to this.

Bob

Oh yes thank you for this

This is probably the best treat I've had since the double releases for JJK.
