Hey Arnold Season 3 Episode 11 and 12 Reaction

Comments

You gotta remember continuity-heavy cartoons were VERY rare when Hey Arnold aired. Even though it fumbles occasionally (like this episode having Rhonda learn the same lesson again), it was probably the first cartoon a lot of kids saw that even tried to have as much continuity as this show does.

None None

you know it's knowing the actually pig war while watching this episode. you get a whole knew appreciate for it. obviously they took liberties with the story to make more fun. But we didn't actually go to war with the British over a pig but we could have. which makes is all the more crazy, to get you the oversimplified version. after the war of 1812 U.S and British were still having border dispute. And The U.S recently got got Louisiana from napoleon in 1803. They decide to discuss the the border issue again. This is where manifest destiny comes in with U.S thinking is was there god given miss they had the Oregon treaty which unfortunately was very vague in which the the border channel would the line continue on san juan because their were so many channels. but both sides claimed the island. so in 1853 James Douglas sent an irishman named charles griffin with same Hawaiian shepherds to san juan lsland to settle their so they can claim it as their own first. but then a year letter a custom collector also stumble upon the lsland and their was conflict also another county got involved causing a major dispute. then in 1858 the fraser canyon gold rush happen which everyone attracted alot of Americans to the region. and many settled there. the farmer they reference in the show was lyman cutter. who basically build his house out in the open because he was lazy af. right in the middle of a britsh sheep run. then build a potatoes farm on only fenced in 3 sides. Griffin had a Berkshire pig they are well know for rooting. And lyman's badly protection fence was a bad combo. he would chase the pig off his land and he and griffin would often argument over this because both side thinking the lands belong to their countries. and one day in a fit of angry lyman shot the pig. He then felt bad and told griffin what he did. Griffin was extremely angry and wanted lyman to pay $100 for the pig. which would be $3,873.07 today. lyman refused threating to shoot anymore animals who trespass on his property and even threating to shoot griffin. griffin told James Douglas and they send British officers telling lyman to pay or he could be arrested and taken back to Victoria. Remember these islands are in dispute so from an american perspective the british arresting an american on their lsland and trying him under british law was very controversial. not to get to crazy in the story but basically more and more ppl got involved william s harney and captain pickett, and the British navy. and if things escalated it could have lead to war. but lucky thanks to ppl like captain hornby, rear admiral baynes and general winfield scott were able to stop this from happening. eventually after the American civil war it was decided it would be sent to international arbitration, the empire of Germany would decide with both sides making there cases and apparently the U.S had a bit more style and pizzazz in their argument so when it was all said and done the U.S got the lsland and in 1872 the british conceded the lsland but as the americans came in the raise their flag the british removed the flagpole on their way out as one final middle finger to the U.S XD so there ya go. The Pig War.

Are you kidding me?! There is a scene in the Pig War episode that is actually from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.🤣
