Evil Inc Shareholder Report: Angus gets out of an old book, and Evil Inc readers get into a new one!

The second biggest news of the week is that Angus has returned from his exile!

Luckily for him, Lethal Librarian had hidden a copy of “Ferdinand the Bull” inside a hollowed-out copy of “Death in the Afternoon,” so his stay was decidedly more comfortable than it would have been otherwise!

Kickstarter

The Kickstarter campaign for Evil Inc After Dark: Full Stream Ahead is live! This brand-new book continues the story right where the last one left off — with Miss Match facing a life-or-death cliffhanger and the stakes higher than ever.

I’m excited to finally share this project with you, and I’ve built some fun rewards for backers:

This book is a labor of love, and with your help, I can bring it to life. Check it out, pledge if you can, and please share the campaign with a friend who might enjoy it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.: Is [character from pre-reboot strip] ever coming back?

A.: No, probably not. I got this question so often that I actually brought Evil Atom back just so I could kill him.

The truth is pretty simple: If a character was left behind in the reboot, there was a reason for it. And — unless that character suddenly becomes integral to the storyline — they’re probably going to remain a part of Evil Inc history.

NCS memories

Another wonderful part of attending the National Cartoonists Society conference was the opportunity to make some new friends. If you remember from last week’s newsletter, my ComicLab co-host Dave Kellett and I hosted a live version of our podcast onstage with three fantastic cartoonists. We discussed several ways the business of comics had been evolving over the past couple of years.

The following night, at the Reuben Awards dinner, Rick Kirkman — half of the creative duo behind the iconic syndicated comic “Baby Blues” — stepped up to the microphone to present two of the Silver Reuben Awards.

Dressed as a dinosaur.

“I watched the ComicLab Live show with Dave Kellett and Brad Guigar yesterday, and I figured I’d dress the way I feel.”

He got a huge laugh and a round of applause. Needless to say, Dave and I talked him into a photo, and we had a delightful chat after the show. At the Farewell Brunch the next morning, he joined our table where sketchbooks were being passed along with the scrambled eggs and coffee. He was kind enough to gift me with this original.

Thanks, as always, for following along — and for all of the enthusiasm you’ve shown as I juggle comics, Kickstarters, and the occasional dinosaur-sighting. Next week I’ll (hopefully) be a little less jammed up and have more Evil Inc goodness to share, but for now I’m keeping my head down and pushing this book over the finish line.

Until then, take care, keep reading, and wish Angus a smooth re-entry to civilized society. (Or the Evil Inc office, whichever comes first.)

—Brad
