One of the great performances from Pacino. and Cazale. Never get tired of watching this movie. You have seen all of John Cazale movies. and every movie of his was great. John Cazale already knew he had not much time when he filmed The Deer Hunter, in fact The Deer Hunter was not release until after his death.

Ames, many of the actors in the supporting cast were from the New York stage, and several of them were performers that Pacino had worked with before in the theater. While preparing for the film, Lumet had everyone do a lot of rehearsing. Much of the dialogue you hear was not originally scripted, but improvised during rehearsals and then used when the movie was shot. That's part of why it feels so real, almost like a documentary. Dog Day Afternoon is my favorite Sidney Lumet movie. My second favorite is Running On Empty. If you've never seen that one, I highly recommend it.

Great movies all of them. Hooah!

Gripping performance by Al Pacino. That guy you recognized as the android from Aliens is a detective in The Terminator. Suggested Al Pacino movies: Donnie Brasco (1997), Heat (1995), Scent of a Woman (1992), Serpico (1973) (also directed by Sidney Lumet), and Scarface (1983). I think you have now reacted to all of the John Cazale movies.

Carol Kane & Lance Henriksen in early roles. Dominic Chianese (uncle from the sopranos) played his dad.
