Happy American Thanksgiving to all our friends in the US!

This movie was a blast! I had no idea it was a John Hughes movie so that was a delight to find out at the end!! It made sense as this movie had so much heart! There are some epic lines and scenes in this one!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and you get to be with family and friends and stuff your faces!

Let me know all your fave things about this movie below!

Some trivia. Hughes was shooting this movie at the same time he was doing another great film ‘She’s Having a baby” That starred Kevin Bacon and Elizabeth McGovern. That’s why he had Bacon do the cameo. In the seen where Mrs Page is in bed with TV on the argument you hear is Bacon and McGovern from their movie. He used the old man from the plane in both movies and the Marathon Rosie Cheek lady in both movies.

You nailed that Houdini reference. I loved The Flintstones as a kid. You may have said before, but did you go to Bangkok or Chiang Mai while in Thailand? I've never been to Thailand. You can see the John Candy charm in "Uncle Buck" (1989). He did a couple of voices in "Heavy Metal" (1981), which is an animated movie (Canadian, by the way) that I have nostalgia for but do not know how it would be for a reaction. John Candy was not an SNL cast member but he did host. At one point, SNL attempted to recruit him as a cast member but he did not want to leave the Canadian SCTV. Steve Martin has appeared on SNL 35 times. He's hosted 16 times — one less than the person who's hosted the most SNL episodes of all time, Alec Baldwin. Martin's early work on SNL is what first propelled Martin to stardom, placing him in front of a massive live audience. I remember that.

Was this your first time watching this movie?

In the end Neil was thankful to have a friend like Del

Witchfinder General

There was a deleted sub plot where Neil's wife suspected he was having an affair, that's why she seems a bit weird during the movie, and is relieved to see Del at the house

Witchfinder General

He’s amazing

This dropped with perfect timing. This will forever be my annual watch for the evening before Thanksgiving. That final song and freeze frame on John Candy's smile has such an impact, no matter how many times I've seen it.

So fitting, what with John Candy making this Canada's contribution to American Thanksgiving! (and now Ames's ! D ). I actually haven't seen this in years and don't remember much about it so I'm looking forward to revisiting it and seeing what it's got. ( And hey, getting a head start on Xmas.....if "It's A Wonderful Life" was last year, than may I be the first to nominate "Miracle On 34th Street"! )
