Upcoming this Week!

Hey Friends!!!

WHEW! What a week ahead!!! AFI always brings such a unique spin to things! I hope our American friends have an amazing holiday week/weekend. Let us know what y’all are up to!

Wednesday - Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987) Poll Winner! What a tremendously heartfelt movie with sooo many laughs! So many great one-liners and one of the best "F**K YOU" scenes I've ever seen! I was pleasantly surprised to realize this is a John Hughes film! Be kind out there, friends—we never know what people are going through. Happy Thanksgiving!

AFI Friday - #85 A Night at the Opera (1935). Not gonna lie, I was a bit nervous about this one when I started. I knew nothing about it going in except that it was the Marx Brothers. But wow—what a ride! Some truly magical moments, fantastic comedy, and what an immensely talented bunch. I’m loving this journey through the AFI list—there’s so much to appreciate in these classics!

Sunday - The Beast itself: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) Extended Cut. I haven’t seen this since it first came out! I’m beyond excited to rewatch it. It’s also new to the AFI list at #50. I barely remember the details—just some characters, who played who, and, of course, Gollum. STOKED!

We will get a poll up this week + noms! Also, let you know what's planned for December!!!

Have a fantastic week, everyone!!!

Oh, wow, you're doing the LOTR trilogy? Let me find my seat belt!

Bob Blankenheim

Yay!

The Fellowship is perfect for a rewatch if you haven't seen it since release (especially if you haven't seen the extended cut, which I highly recommend and flies by). I am sure you don't remember much. Will be a fresh reaction that I enjoy watching. I can't remember if I have seen Planes, Trains and Automobiles, but I understand considered a great movie for Thanksgiving. I will watch the reaction.

YES !!!!! Finally the Marx Brothers !!!! One of their absolute best. Groucho Marx has to be considered as one of the funniest entertainers of ALL TIME !! Vaudeville. Film. TV with his game shoe appearances and his own game show. So glad you did this and glad you liked it.

I remember driving past the film trucks outside the motel on Rt 55 that year and wondering what they were filming,.. We were so lucky that John Hughes always chose to film in his native IL as many of us never got to see that side of Hollywood..

These films are among those one could teach an entire semester of film studies from, first by watching the uncut versions, then repeating it with the commentary by the actors and Jackson. It's a clinic on adapting a classic work to the screen, acting with different dialects and languages, editing, producing, and directing.

The extended LOTR trilogy and Band of Brothers are the closest thing to perfect I've seen. You can really tell Peter Jackson put his soul into those films. ::chef's kiss:: So stoked to watch with you Ames!

Pickster

Did you see it in the theaters the first time? If so, seeing the extended cuts now will be a real treat. When I bought the blue ray set, it was like eating a second piece of chocolate cake, only this time with ice cream.
