W.O.W Spin #28 The Goonies (1985)

Comments

I saw this in theaters when it came out right before I turned 9 and it has been one of my favorite movies since then. For my birthday in 2010, I went on my own Goonie adventure by driving from Southern California to Astoria Oregon to visit all of the filming locations. I have returned tot hat area 2 times since, and each time I actually made sure to rewatch The Goonies while there. I can see why you thought they filmed some of the scenes in Vancouver, but it mostly was filmed in Astoria and surrounding areas like Cannon Beach and Ecola State Park. It is funny that they start in Northern Oregon, but the final scene where is a beach in California a bit north of the San Francisco area.

Congrats to AJ. I've never seen this movie. I was 22 busy in college when this movie was released, and maybe I thought of it as a kids' movie. I see that it has Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, and Corey Feldman.

One of the cool things about this area where they filmed the intro and the Walsh house, is, literally just down the road is the same school where they filmed "Kindergarten Cop"

So cool!

Amalia Wolf

I LOVE this movie! Been watching it since I was a child and I definitely connected with the kids. I knew some people who actually moved to Oregon just so they could visit the Walsh house

Wade Wallenstein

I have seen that! But it’s been a while! I LOVE THAT MOVIE

YESSSS

I KNOW kept being LIKE VAN but no those houses aren’t like the ones in CAN lol

The exteriors were filmed in Astoria, Oregon. The Walsh house attracts a lot of fans; it was recently bought by a superfan who is happy to receive visitors, but you have to do the truffle shuffle to get in

Witchfinder General

This was a wonderful surprise, love this movie. Congrats to AJ. Too late in the day to watch now so I'll probably save it for when I need that feel good boost.

I think Ames would really enjoy "What We Do in the Shadows" (which almost won).

Mario

What a fun movie! I enjoyed this very much. I've watched this movie many times, but it's been a while, and this time around I noticed a few things I hadn't before: 1. "Rich stuff" is such a strange phrase to describe treasure. Why not say treasure? Would kids really know what doubloons are and be able to identify one? Maybe because the father worked in a museum? I had to google it. 2. The dead guy in the freezer blinks. 3. When Chunk finds the car, the Fratelli brother starts singing opera. You can hear his voice, but if you look at his reflection in the rearview mirror of the car, he isn't singing. Ghost voice!

Got my afternoon planned now!
