The Exorcist (1973) YT edit

Comments

So I just joined because I found out you watched this movie. Glad I did. Your reaction was so solid and on-point I had to sub. Yes! This film gets under your skin, crawls around awhile then settles in and never leaves. I was alive but too young to see it in '73 but did see it in theaters on a re-release a few years later. Even then about four people ran out. Usually during the cerebral scan scene. One of the big ironies for me is how for a lot of people the scariest part of this movie about possession isn't the demon but the barbaric medical norms of the 70s. Not only the prehistoric machines but prescribing Ritalin like it's candy. (personal experience and observation) Anyway, thanks for the great watch. I appreciate your intelligent and on-the-fly interpretations of films you've never seen before. Cheers.

I swore I wouldn’t sub to any more reaction girls….but since you seem to like scary flicks, I made an excerpt

This was the rough edit The full edit is live but it’s the same other than having to blur some stuff for monetization which didn’t help LOL

The BUZZ on this film back then was strong enough I still have memories of it being talked about in hushed tones from adults at family parties. The stories I heard from my teenage neighbors in 1973 ALONE terrified me. Thank God I wasn’t allowed to see it then because I wouldn’t have slept for another 10 years…

We saw the previews and we (my brother, Paul, Roy, Steve, Gary, Donald, maybe Stanley?) all were about 10. Up until this point "Rosemary's Baby" (1968) was thee 'scariest movies.' Roy “The ToyBoy” said we should sneak in. We pooled our money to get a ticket and went early. 9:45 they let Roy in and we went to the back door. He let us in and we quickly sat down. We experienced one of thee most scariest and sickest movies of all time! Exclamation Point! This proves my point of “Thee Golden Age of Cinema” from the late 60’s towards the end of the 80’s… With a renaissance in the year 1990 alone! In that year alone there’s like 33 movies that are a ‘must watch.’ From the Golden Age there are a lot of ‘firsts’ from first visual effects, to sound, to ‘stories’ told… Jaws – made thousands of people fear going into the water… Alien! A very large range in virtually every type of movie published to the entire world to see. Movies soo epic they stand the test of time. From this movie to Rocky where we get the first "up in your face boxing" to where you can feel the punches; let alone see a match like that! We've seen Cassius Clay - Muhammad Ali, and other greats live and even movies too, but none like Rocky. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) to Star Wars (1977) and on and on. When we left we were in shock and awe and even terrified... We didn't talk at all for a long time. While riding the bus home Roy started talking about her head twisting around. We talking about everything except for those sick scenes. One part of the 'shock effect' from this movie was that there were a lot of people (70 to 80%) whom believed in a higher power back then. I'm pretty sure I didn't vote on that round because I feel that some can't handle it. It was shocking and etc. for me, that I don't want to 'push' it on any other person. Least we forget all the controversies surrounding the movie!

Sometimes I watch a YT cut instead of a full reaction if I've already seen the movie a bunch of times. Like I watched the Aliens YT version instead of the full b/c I didn't want to invest 2+ hours. I wouldn't do it for a movie I haven't seen, though

What an excellent day for an exorcism.

I have a really weird (prob stupid) question. Does any Patreon member choose to watch a YT edit over a Watch Along? I guess maybe if it is a movie that you are unfamiliar with, and you just want to test the waters. But that is so not me. Just wondering. LOL.
